Timeline memory points/Go to 00:00:00

Postby Andreas Klein » Wed Apr 14, 2010 00:57

Maybe this already exists and I simply have not found it in the complex manual: wouldn't it be great to press a button (e.g. on the ISIS controller to have Pyramix save the current location on the timeline to a memory. Perhaps several memory points could be established to go to later with pressing a "Go to" button or a with a shortcut. I could do this on my antiquated Fostex Foundation 2000... Also, there should be a quick way to go to "oo:oo:oo". Is there?

Thanks!

as for 00:00:00:00. just type: NUM 6 - NUM . - <ENTER>. Quite fast :)

And as for locators, why not drop Markers? You can drop 'm in a special track group if you wish and use those for locator routines.

Thanks, that's helpful to know! As far as using markers, I'll test that whether it is practical.

In the Macro Tools menu, there are ten 'slots' to store the position of the cursor and a corresponding ten commnads to retrieve them. Mapping each of these to a keyboard shortcut would work for what you are enquiring about.

However, I'd use Jaap's suggestion of using markers: It's easy enough to resize the marker window and tuck it into a corner of the screen and perhaps more importantly, you can also assign key shortcuts to markers.

You could use workspaces too.

Some PMX users love iKey multi button keypads. That would be a perfect place to assign go-to's.

in a similar vein,
I would love to be able to locate to CD time.

It is of course already possible to view the timecode display as CD time, and I would find it useful to be able to jump to a point in time relative to the last CD marker.
This would be useful in editing producer's comments etc. particularly for multiple or long CDs, as it would cut down the amount of jumping around trying to locate the correct point.
Several producers that I work with already write down CD time for the editor's benifit, and it would be very simple just to be able to tap it in on the num-pad (as with timecode) and jump to it, rather than scrolling through the timeline in display as CD time mode.
You could even implement a skip to track number time feature. Eg type 12.00:00:30:00 for track 12, 30 seconds (entered in a simliar gui as the 'locate timecode')

Just a thought, not essential I know as you can skip to next CD marker easily then scroll through timeline, using the CD time display as a reference.
This may even exist already and I just havn't found it yet!

hi Andy,
it does exist, but probably not how or where you'd think. :)
go into the CD/SACD editor tab. under the "view" menu, select "show CD player." this brings up a movable window with track IDs and timings relative to the disc you have selected in the tab. i use this for the exact same purpose you mention and it works great.

ah yes i see, thanks! But can you actually jump to say track 4, 2 mins and 35 secs in?
i'd just like to be able to jump straight to that location by typing "04.00:02:35:00"

Forgive me if I miss the point of the CD player, but doesn't it only allow you to skip to the next track marker (which you can already with a keyboard shortcut) and fast-forward / re-wind which you can do with the cursor and the timeline, or indeed another keyboard shortcut?

It seems to me that the player only displays CD time in the same way as going to view > TimeCode resolution > Display as CD time? Then the same counter comes up (minus 'Track 4') in the top left timecode display box above the timeline, inplace of the cursor's 'absolute' timecode. I would like to input the track number and track time indicated by the producer, and locate instantly to that given CD time for that given track.

Again, maybe there's some subtle menu I've missed. To be honest, like I said before, would just be useful, not critically necessary anyway.

Thanks

What I do in this case is to use the mark in and mark out. I place the mark in at a cd start mark location (f7)- and then in the box that shows the duration between mark in and mark out I enter the position I want to go to which now places the mark out at the location I need and then (num 5) puts my cursor there. Perhaps a few extra steps, but really pretty fast.

... or,

locate the cursor to the beginning of the desired CD track. Click in the timecode box - upper left above the time scale - the numbers will go orange as you enter them. Enter the amount of time you wish to advance within this CD track, but instead of hitting the Enter button (which would locate your cursor to the newly entered timecode location), hit the alpha-meric keyboard's "+" key. Pyrmaix will kindly compute the addition to the location already there, and locate your cursor to the location that is the sum of the previous location - plus - the amount you entered. I use this a lot.

Try it with an EDL where the audio session isn't referenced to 00:00:00:00...it doesn't work on my system; the offsets appearing relative to the absolute timecode, not the time within CD-tracks. So, a project that begins at 06:00:00:00 can't use this, unless I'm missing something painfully obvious.

This appears to only work for the first CD track for me, something weird happens when you're at the beginning of track 2 and hit the plus key, it jumps back to the first track and references that timecode. (my project is currently starting at 00:00:00:00 so I don't know if its just locating to absolute timecode or relative to the first track marker yet.)
Works like a charm for the first track though!
