Hi There,
Can anyone let me know the recomended RAID controller(s) for internal storage with VCube HD.
Cheers,
Graeme

Hello Graem,
Are we talking about compressed or uncompressed HD ?
Here is a link to determine the data rate you need regarding the format you use: http://vcube.merging.com/Pages/Help/Video_Basis.html
Intra frame compression codec (DVCPRO-HD, MJPEG) usualy allow to reduce the uncompressed data rate by 5. The given values are absolute minimum requirements for storage bandwidth and a 30% margin must be applied to ensure reliable operations not to mention the optimist specs of manufacturers. Note also that audio streams must also be taken into accompt.
I hope it helps
Laurent

Thanks Laurent,
We were looking for recomended RAID hardware (storage sub system) to give the best performance possible when dealing with uncompressed media. Adaptec, Raidcore etc. We were planning to fill the VCube HD with 6 media disks probably RAID 5 or 6 and just wanted to check the recomended hardware/configuration. We have found some RAID controllers to be quite lacking in performance, like the onboard Promise RAID controller on the older ASUS P4C-800E Deluxe motherboard.
While Im here, we have had a feature request for VCube, mainly to try and allow for the processing latency in projectors. Would it be possible to have an offset (1 or 2 frames) for when the transport is in play but to have the offset ignored when the transport is in stop.
Most projectors don't have a fixed latency but with this we could at least get closer to correct sync. in play and stop/jog.
Regards,
Graeme

Hi Graeme,
Currently we use for uncompressed HD storage an array of 6 SATA hard disks in RAID 0 controlled by a rocketRAID 1820A from highpoint-tech configured in JBOD. This set up allows 2 uncompressed HD streams (picture in picture).

VCube already features the latency compensation you describe:

Cheers,
Laurent

Thanks again Laurent,
I guess my next question is if delay compensation settings could be set in more detail. IE: 0.8 of a frame instead of whole frames.
Also, is it possible to have delay compensation settings or offsets turned off or on in relation to the transport mode? IE: play = on, stop / jog = off.
