Best Controllers?

Postby Silas » Fri Nov 10, 2006 18:47

Can anyone give me some basic advice on what to look for in a controller for PMX? I am primarily interested in fader control but assignable knobs would be good as well.

Should I stick with MIDI controllers if I can't afford one with Oasis protocol?

Can anyone confirm if the JLCooper controllers work well with PMX?

Thanks,
Silas

Hi,

I work with Merging´s Isis controller with extension fader unit and works wonderfully. If 8 physical faders is enough for you, I don´t see the point of having anything else, as Isis was designed for Pyramix. As far as the JL Cooper goes, I think its a nightmare to work with Pyramix. Regards,

Paulo

Sorry I'm late,

I am also interested in this subject, but I'm looking for lots of faders. 8 just will not be enough. I liked the look of the US-2400, but I understand this to be no longer available.

Does anyone know of a similar device. I've already looked at the SmartAV and I am aware of what Euphonics can do.

Regards,

Julian

I do see Tascam US-2400 units available on Ebay from time to time, in fact there are two listed at the moment.

I would like to report that the Motormix is working quite well with Enhanced MIDI control.
I believe there is even more functionality to gain from it if Merging were to release a specific preset rather than the HUI mode.

Hello,

I believe there is even more functionality to gain from it if Merging were to release a specific preset rather than the HUI mode.

In fact, it would be HUI mode anyhow, but if you look in:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Merging Technologies\Controllers

you will find some XML files, these are the description files you are using when selecting US_2400, Raditek, or Mackie HUI, all originated from the same file and customized for specific controllers.

So while yes, we could/should/will provide more templates for more controllers, you are also perfectly free to experiment with editing and fine tune to your needs one that is already suitable for you.

... with an editor like Wordpad, a midi sniffer like Midiox to see what's coming form the controller and a bit of patience.

I will try to post a Tech Note with some more help as soon as I can, and perhaps, if needs be, we could create a place (in the forum) for posting custom templates.

A place to post custom templates would indeed be very helpful.

More a general question here, is anyone running a Yamaha DM100V2 with PMX? If so what mode (MIDI or HUI) and how much do they like each other? I had a Tascam DM 24 for a while (now have a ISIS and very happy) running MIDI and the PMX mixer would freeze….often. Just looking at some mixer options for down the track.
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!
John

We had the freezing problem and found it was the midi interface.
When we changed interface the problem was gone.

Thanks Kjetil, what midi interface were/are you using? At the time of using the DM 24 I had a an M-Audio Midi to USB converter….could that have been the problem??
And ooops, yes I did mean a Yamaha DM1000-V2….tis the silly season :P

That is the very MIDI interface we had problems with.
We are using edirol now and that works fine.
Merging has a few midi/usb interfaces listed that are confirmed to work.

Major *BUMP*

Is there anyone out there working with Pyramix and a Euphonics MC Pro controller? I would love to recieve some in-depth information concerning this combination. I have seen the Richard Meredith's videos on YouTube and the Euphonics site, but they dont really go in-depth into the MC Pro controller surface.
Can the soft knobs, rotaries and keys of the MC Pro control any Pyramix function/parameter? Can you assign transport, locators, macros, automation (fader and plugin) to the controller? Is the Eucon protocol (via Oasis) fully implemented in Pyramix?
