Problem with automation

Postby ehy82 » Sun Mar 29, 2020 09:16

I‘m using pyramix v12 and I have problem with automation
My project is a surround movie and has over 80 different kinds of track such as mono stereo and 5.1 track.in above each strip in mixer, I set the surround pattern direction.
When the automation is of I do not have any problem but once I push on the bottom of automation(either play or record automation) the most whole of surround pattern of stripes have been change to unwanted patterns and unfortunately l can‘t change them what if I turn of the automation.
    My controller is avid artist.

This implies that settings exist in automation (likely defaults) - if you turn automation off and start working and then turn it to play or record everything will jump to the settings it had before you turned it off unless you overwrite them.

There are many ways to address this and it depends on what else you have going on in automation. If you have no automation at this point and everything is static you can place the in and out markers before and after the start/end of your timeline and use the snapshot range function and enable everything. This will write all mixer settings to automation for the entire timeline. It can be a bit fussy so best to read the snapshot section in the manual as there are some pitfalls.

Hi Mark

Thanks for your reply
Where can I find the default automation setting?
I use automation during film mixing(5.1/7.1) and I need static situations because during using automation I need hearing the sound from correct direction.

I'm not sure what settings you're looking for - if specific panning etc... - that will just be whatever the default is when the strip is created. I would suggest reading about Preview mode in the manual - I suspect that this will deliver the functionality you are looking for.

Couple of thoughts.

- If you do not need to automate panning in the way you have tracks laid out and are automating other parameters only you could simply Isolate the panners from automation and then they will only be static and won't change whether automation itself is on or off.

- Otherwise if you do need to automate Panning you should look at snapshot range functionality and/or preview mode.

- Turning automation off to try things will always lose anything you change the moment you re-enable automation (except for anything that is isolated) unless you explicitly write the settings using snapshot range.

- In general unless you specifically want no automation to run Preview mode is the best way to audition.

Best,

Mark

Hi
As you said I don‘t use automation for panning and only use it for changing the gain in few tracks. During sound editing while automation is off everything specially panning is static. When I start film mixing and turn the automation on the panning pattern above the mixer is change to incorrect pattern and I can not change it even if the automation is turn off again.

Hi,
If you don't use the Automation of the Panner, select all strips on the mixer after putting the right position
Ctrl+Shift Right Click on the Panner in any strip and choose Automation-> Isolate.
Or change in the Mix bus routing the Pan in Router

Hi,
If you go into the Automation Tracks window(under the automation header) you'll find all the automation in your project there. Here you can easily delete specific automation parameters, whole strips automation, go through automation history etc. It's a great tool if you work with a lot of automation. You'll find it on page 427 in the manual.
All the best
