I've been finding when I mix out of Pyramix (9.1) and NON real time with Altiverb, the Altiverb in not processed.... the mix come out completely dry.
I've found is a know issue where this occurs but it's only just seemed to appear for me. I've been happily mixing with Altiverb for year and now suddenly it decides to stop working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-John

Re: Altiverb not working on Non-real time Mix
Hi John,
It is a know issue and has been present for me since the very beginning, v.6! I've spoken to Dominique about it over the years, he is certain it's an issue with Altiverb, not Pyramix, and has reached out to the Altiverb folks to no avail.
I don't think I've ever had the mix come out completely dry, just sounding very different. A null test verifies this. Real time mix works perfectly.
Since they can't seem to figure this out, I never bothered upgrading from Altiverb 6 to 7, and instead have moved to a different reverb plugin for most of my projects. Unless I need a very specific ambiance, I don't miss Altiverb......
All Best,
Rick

Thanks for the reply, Rick. What reverb plugin are you using? I'm kind of addicted to my Altiverb but would like to move away given it's buggy nature.

John,
You and I have discussed in the past your troubles with Altiverb, and I believe I mentioned my own satisfaction with Christian Knufinke's SIR2 VST plug-in:
Alternatives include:
combined with some of the many Impulse Responses easily found online through various sources like:
In addition, I've been able to make my own Impulse Responses using:
Alternatives for this include:
as well as the built in tools found in Pro Tools (TLSpace), Cubase (REVerence), Reaper (Cockos ReaVerb) and Logic's Space Designer.
With a program such as the above, you could run a test signal through your Altiverb, to capture some of the IRs you're already used to using. Of course, you can also take speakers and microphones into real spaces, to capture their acoustic signature, such as those I have collected from several Toronto churches that I have used as recording venues.
Finally, you can synthesize your own IRs by creating a virtual space in programs such as:

Re: Altiverb not working on Non-real time Mix
Hi John,
I've been using PhoenixVerb by Exponential Audio. I think it sounds very good, especially for acoustic music and the interface works well. Michael Carnes is the brains behind the company, he was formerly at Lexicon and developed the 960. The one time I had a technical question, he responded within 24 hours and apologized for taking so long to get back to me, good customer service is always appreciated.
All Best,
Rick
