Seeking an alternative to Auto-Tune

Hi All,

Despite my best efforts to avoid a need for it, there is a client expectation that pitch correction be available when required.

I have used Auto-Tune on and off for years, but this now seems a risky choice with Pyramix as Antares state there are known incompatibilities with Pyramix. I am attempting to demo Waves-Tune at the moment, but am encountering difficulties. Even when it does work, it doesn't scan ALL the notes and sometimes it doesn't work at all. Waves Support also claim that Pyramix v9 'is not officially supported' by Waves, though it might work - which has proven to be an honest and accurate assessment...

Does anyone know of a professional and reliable tool for this application, please?

I've had some success with Melodyne, but always in stand-alone mode, with Rendered tracks from Pyramix.

I'll check out that option.

I know I could export out of Pyramix and use another platform that the various plug-ins are compliant with, but there is a natural resistance to this approach if it can be avoided

Hi Ross.

I'm also using Melodyne (in stand alone mode) when correcting mono or stereo files. When I need to pitch a multitrack I use MPEX4 (you could also use Dirac which is - I guess - similar).

Melodyne can be quite useful and has a polyphonic algorithm that shows you (sort of) the frequencies present as a function of time. This means that you can virtually change the pitch of one note in a chord. So sometimes it is actually better to make a 2-track mix of your multitrack recording and work with Melodyne on that, rather than using MPEX4 (or Dirac) to just alter all tracks the same amount.

I'm using Pyramix Masscore and play back from Melodyne through Pyramix, but I guess you could also play back through some other device.

Izotope Nectar has a pitch editor module similar to Melodyne´s but without DNA (the function that allows chord separation).

It´s a simpler tool but maybe it´s just what you need. Check a video here:

I forgot to mention Elastique - https://products.zplane.de/elastique-pitch - if all you need is a pitch raise/lower and/or formant raise/lower for the whole track. Not quite as note specific as Auto-tune or Melodyne, but plays well with Pyramix, and can be automated.
