new file without stopping recording

Postby mpdonahue » Wed Mar 21, 2012 14:14

THis is a feature request that I've been asking for for about 8 years now, just thought I'd bring it back up for it's annual visit.
When doing sessions, especially those where the music doesn't really stop or if you are chasing timecode, it would be especially helpful to be able to create a new soundfile on the fly.
Example, you're doing sessions and want each take in a file. Currently, you have to stop record and then restart record, with the audio in the interval between stop and start lost. I'd like to be able to just create a new file on the fly with continuous audio. There are other workstations that do this, it would be great if PMX could do the same.

All the best,
Mark

At the very least, a new file should be created without interrupting the recording when a WAV reaches its 2 GB limit, an AIFF, 4 GB.

But, yes, just clicking a button or hitting a keyboard combination to immediately initiate a new file would be extremely useful.

Pyramix has been WAV/BWF RIFF64 compatible for a little while now. No such limitations exist anymore. If you're recording in AIFF format using Pyramix, you don't deserve to live, anyhow...

I'll add my voice to the support of Mark's idea. Maybe this time, maybe this time...

The request is really old by many users, some have retired and died by now ;), V8 please. Best implementation would be by just hitting record button again while in record to split a file without losing a single sample.

And while we are at it please allow another recording option (by choice in record settings) to include a few seconds pre-buffer in the recording. How often have recordings have to be repeated, because the speaker or the musicians started too early. Constantly Buffering the last 2 sec of input signal and write it to file in case of record starting would make those colleagues happy.

Yes please to the new file feature and the pre-record capture feature. Both would make life a lot easier on classical sessions.

+100. Yes please, a pre-record buffer of 3 or 5 secs and a press record while in record to split the file. These features are invaluable for serious classical sessions.

My Nagra VI recorder has both these features as do some DAW's. Please PMX get on board.

The buffer is also very useful when using click countoff. It helps avoiding chopping of slightly early arrivals.
It would be good if the buffer could be set in seconds, but with the option to line the buffer up with beat one of the countoff
