Pyramix 8 - What do You Need More?
Hi all,
I have my own thoughts about the improvements I would like to see implemented in Pyramix 8 and following versions.
I´m curious to know about other´s needs or ideas in terms of improvements. What really would make a diference in your daily working practices at the studio.
Can you explain in short, 3 things that you would like to see happening on the next major version?

Jeez, only three?
1. Expansion of the Album Publishing feature to include more formats (mp3, aac, Apple Lossless), as well as unifying entry of CD Text information, with meta-data entry for compressed audio file formats.
2. Markers linked to clips rather than just to the timeline (although both forms are useful). Automation linking to clips could be improved as well.
3. Eradicate the bugs in the Media Manager (files not appearing, even after "Refresh"; the presence of certain file formats crashing the program...). Make mounting folders and routing audio to specific file locations and formats more fluid and intuitive.

I would like to see unsurpassed system stability
Re: Pyramix 8 - What do You Need More?
Why do we even need Media Management. What's wrong with the file system? Why do we need to "mount" folders? Get the files from this folder on the HDD and go. Why do we need more?

Hi David,
Given the user-base and the SFX library requirements, the Media Manager is still a valid concept. Myself, I could live without it, but I've seen *massive* SFX libraries that do benefit from the structured mounting that it provides.

Well, allow me to disagree. The Media Management is one of the things that makes Pyramix diferent and better than the file management of other daws. I work with a lot of sfx libraries and trully appreciate the ability to create offline ref libraries and organize them as I want, without moving a single file in my disks if needed.
Also, the ability to cut a section of a clip, prior to drag to the timeline is another thing that it allows. This one alone is one of the top list user requests from PT users, not implemented for all this years. Other daws don´t have it either.
Also, the possiblity that you have to record diferent tracks to diferent folders in one go is also something great, that unless you had the folders mounted, I doubt it would be possible.
Not to mention the quick import and export features, SRC etc. And being able to collect used media into the main project folder. The list goes on for people that work in post, but not only.
Who wants to get lost in Windows file system if you can keep it organized?

Paulo M

- automatic, quick and fail-proof calculation of latencies of any outboard path
- automation: eradicate bugs (esp. group-fader related) + more resolution in mouse editing
- mixed vs3-vst order
and in general as a native user ,I need to feel that I get that extra value amongst other emerging software that in terms of usability at least seem to me to be reaching the same level for a fraction of the price

Now that would be very handy

There are libraries built into the W7 file system.

Good to know, still on XP. However, I have my doubts regarding the degree of flexibility compared to Media Management. It´s a personnal opinion, that is. Not an absolute truth. Everybody have their own ways of working. I rather whish that future enhancements on Media Management deserve Merging´s attention, than to be left with Win alone.
I see a lot of other daw users, making good remarks about Pyramix file management and whishing the same degree of flexibility. But I guess it depends on the type of work you´re involved with.
Keep the ideas coming. Maybe you can tell us what improvements you would like implemented in Media Management workflow that would best meet your working methods.

Inserting plugins in mixer without rebuilding. In large projects the rebuild takes forever and really slows down the workflow.

Re: Pyramix 8 - What do You Need More?
Mixer snapshots without rebuild! Those are ever missed since they disappeared with V5.
I still don't understand how anyone could have thought about killing that important feature.
We need mixer snapshots, a straight forward simple UI for storing/managing/recalling them and an easy way of choosing which parameters to automate or isolate in the snapshot.
Usually switching between scenes/movements in live recording requires snapshot setting/recall of fader level, pan, mute, aux send level...

Re: Pyramix 8 - What do You Need More?
a 64bits application
Or, at least, an installer fully compatible with a 64bits OS

Re: Pyramix 8 - What do You Need More?
64 bits is announced for native, and expected in 8.1 I believe for masscore, but only with the horus interface
