Is anyone running PMX 6 bootcamped using Snow Leopard?

Postby Kurt Alan Briggs » Thu Jan 13, 2011 22:33

I have been having trouble with an ASIO driver for 003R interface. It may be because I am running XP SP2 not 3. To upgrade to SP3 I need to install a new version of Bootcamp (I'm currently running Beta 1.3 and the assistant has expired).

It occurs to me that I may as well take the bull by the horns and upgrade the operating system to Snow Leopard (which my MacBook Pro (Santa Rosa) will run), install SP3 and reinstall the latest version of PMX 6. At the same time I'm thinking of adding some RAM to support the new operating systems.

Two Questions:

1) Does anybody have any experience running PMX/SP3 bootcamped on Snow Leopard? -- I read about some problems in the forum a few months ago but I can't find the thread.

2) Is there a maximum amount of RAM that will run PMX/SP3 without problems addressing the memory?

Thanks for your help in advance,

Kurt

I've been running a Bootcamped MacBook Pro (1st edition CoreDuo, circa 2006) with Snow leopard for a while. No issues with PMX, which is running on XP sp3. Versions of Pyramix have included v6.0 all the way to V7.0sp1.

Same here, MBPro 2008 Core2Duo, SnowLeopard, latest Bootcamp, XP SP3, alternating between ASIO4all and RME Madiface drivers, PMX 6&7 running without problems. (but check info here about modifications, particularly NVidia driver setup, very helpful.)

Thanks for the replies.

How did you both get SP3 on your systems? I have the Install disks for XP SP2 and Bootcamp wouldn't let me upgrade using the Microsoft SP3 download from their site. Can you still buy MS Install disks for SP3? Is the only way to do it via the Internet with automatic update?

Also, do I understand correctly that version 6.2.x will not run in Windows 7?

Thanks again,

Kurt

Hi Kurt,

I just used the automatic update within Windows, via the internet. I've seen V6.x running on Windows 7 (Pyramix Native), but haven't done it myself.

You might consider 'Slipstreaming' your sp3 update into the Win XP install CD. Here's one link:

I've been running 6.2 on Windows 7 for a year now and have been very pleased with the performance. It took some tweaking, but I managed to get it eventually. This is on a late 2009 MBP with Bootcamp 3.2. I haven't installed v7 yet. I was kind of hoping to hear more positive feedback about it before jumping in.

I'm running 6.2 on a mid 2007 15" MBP with XP Pro SP3 boot-camped under snow leopard. There are a few extra tweaks that need to be done, the NVIDIA issue mentioned above as well as disabling the keyboard.exe to name a couple, but I'm very pleased with the performance.

Whichever Windows OS you go with, I highly recommend using Winclone to image your boot-camp partition.

Thanks for all your replies. I've almost got it running on XP Pro SP2 but I'm having tic problems. I think it probably should be another thread as it is more specific. If I can't get it running under XP2 the next step is to try XP3 so thanks for the posts regarding setup with SP3. The new post is titled: "Tics in Record for Santa Rosa MBP/PMX 6.2 SP2 combination."

Thanks again for the help so far,

Kurt
