When?
The mastering pack is great, but clients and a few very reputable musicians are releasing on blu-ray now.
There's CD authoring and SACD... why not blu-ray? I haven't read anything about it in the newsletters, and I am not sure of the reason.
I wonder how are current engineers doing their authoring for this format.

Re: blu-ray authoring
Probably because most releases on Blu-ray (and DVD for that matter) are putting audio into a movie soundtrack format - DTS or Dolby usually - which require specialized, and licenced, authoring solutions.
On the other hand, there's nothing preventing you from preparing stereo or 5.1 (or 6.1, 7.1...) tracks in Pyramix and then exporting them as WAV files to another program to do the final authoring. A fairly inexpensive solution along these lines is discWelder Steel from Minnetonka - http://www.minnetonkaaudio.com/

Re: blu-ray authoring
Frank, Steel only does DVD Audio, not Blue Ray as far as I know. Authoring in DVD Audio is fine, but unless you buy an expensive BD player that also reads it, or a dedicated player that suports the format along with DVD and SACD (eg. HHB UDP 89) you´re stuck with it.
In fact, the BD original specs include an audio only BD, as version 3.0 but this is not implemented as of today. As Frank mentioned, to author a BD you need specific authoring tools from the likes of Sonic Scenarist etc. Basically you´ll need picture of some form of graphics to allow the audio to be included as well. Nevertheless, there are companies like 2L that release BD Audio only titles(recorded in Pyramix and using Sphynx or DAD converters to record DXD) in conjuntion with msm-studios in Germany. They developed their own authoring solutions to be able to do that.
So if you want an easy way to burn a BD disk, you have to stick with a data only disk where you can burn your files. But don´t expect a desktop BD player to read it though. I checked on the Nero website, that Nero 9 allows some basic BD authoring but never experimented.

True enough, although Steel does have a function (not present in the other versions of discWelder) of creating a "Universal" DVD disk that has both DVD-A and audio copied to the Video sector of the disk, so that it will play either stereo or 5.1 on any common DVD player.
I would expect that the folks at Minnetonka will be coming up with something similar for Blu-ray before too much longer, although that is speculation on my part.

We export our files from Pyramix into Sony Vegas/DVD Architect for Blu-ray authoring. Works like a charm!

Can you please elaborate on this. Does this give you a playable multichannel audio only (with perhaps dummy video) disc?
Further to that, has anyone here seen the recommendations for music Blu-ray discs?
Re: blu-ray authoring
You are still better off using either Sonic's BD tools or the DoStudio system. If you want to use DTS-HD (you do...), etc....

Re: blu-ray authoring
Will this functionality be making its way to PMX soon?
One big advantage of PMX over (say) PT is being able to create / author a CD within the program rather than messily exporting WAV's and assembling in another program... so being able to produce masters in other formats would be good & would help PMX retain this advantage...

I second this feature request.
