Dear all,
I believe that it is possible to import a video file into Pyramix in order to view it alongside the audio being edited / mixed. But I'm wondering if it is possible to record video in to Pyramix 'live', whilst recording audio - and if so, what keys, additional hardware, etc. one requires.
Currently running PMX v5.1, MB5 / AES.
The requirement is to record orchestral sessions and film the conductor simultaneously. The video should then be edited identically / locked to the audio (I'm assuming that with an imported video in PMX this is possible?), so that audio & video can be played back at a later date when recording overdubs in another country. There's no click track or siilr, so seeing the conductor is going to be important for the overdubbing artists later on.
I know I can probably do this with a combination of external video machines and so on, but that involves equipment I don't readily have and an extra layer of complication doing the conforming later; I'm hoping that it is possible (easily!) to record basic, lowish-quality video into PMX directly. . .
Any advice?
with thanks in advance!
best wishes,
AVI

I've seen a system that did this, but it was with pyramix and Vcube..

It is not possible to record video directly in PMX ; however running a VCube in parallel with PMX opens up a wide range of videocapture possibilites. You can also record to external videomachines, grab this material to MPEG-1/2 and work with the DS-Video Player synced to Virtual Transport

Hi there
It's dead easy to do what you want to do. If you've got the DS Video option. You set the the DS Video player to capture and every time you hit record on the PMX time line the DS Video player will record with what's going into it. Once you've finished your recordings put the DS Video Player into playback select the video file which links to your audio and you're there.
The only down side is that you can't edit all the video files together to make one long one.
Hope this helps and i've not missed the point totaly

Re: Recording guide video in PMX - possible?
Recording can be done in Pyramix using DS on Virtual Transport and using a firewire interface like a Canopus. I did this all the time before I bought VCube. Video is recorded in DS and audio on the Pyramix timeline. However you can not edit the video along with the audio edits. For this as Jaap says, Vcube is obviously a better and more versatile solution.

You do need the advanced video support key - in order to capture with the ds video player. I too though would recommend using vcube in conjunction with pmx as the better option though.

This is something I've wanted to do a couple times.
Mark, any comment about how well the parallel editing of video works?

Re: Recording guide video in PMX - possible?
I have done several multi-camera live shoots - editing audio/video together with pmx/vcube slaved and it worked pretty flawlessly. Those were fairly straightforward projects though. You might ask Jack Vad at the SF Symphony - I believe he has done some more complicated dvd projects in this manner.
Even just for general video playback I prefer the vcube as it plays pretty much anything without issue, and is also super fast at rendering. Plus I can easily add overlays for scoring etc...

plus it renders to any format in any resolution (avi, mpeg, mjpeg, Qtime), including overlays such as timecode or subtitles. Very handy for delivering reference files to the customers, or translation files to the translaters. It also wraps master-material to IMX for digital delivery directly to the broadcasters. It also enables you to do autoassemblies directly to videomachines! I also do lots of editing on the VCube, albeit not an AVID nor FCP. Basic editing can be done. Me loves me VCube!

Re: Recording guide video in PMX - possible?
For those that have Pyracubes, what processor are you using on the machine? Dual or Quad core? I´m running it on a dual core and would like to upgrade to quad, but my mobo only suports a few models which I find hard to find as nowadays everybody tends to go for the i family processors. Thanks
