Cannot open CD-r interface

If you get this error in disc write, and you know there is nothing wrong with your CD-drive.
Install itunes. This will fix the GearASPI drivers

... or, just re-install (or Repair) the GEAR drivers found in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Merging Technologies\Gear\Drivers\Gear\Driver_Installer_32bit.exe

This is something I'm finding I have to do more often these days, after any software installation or removal, or sometimes after running a Registry cleaner.

Edited Jan. 31, 2010 to correct the file location.

Hi,

You should have looked under the known issues.

The location of the gear drivers is incorrect in the "Known Issues" doc. It should be:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Merging Technologies\Gear\Drivers\Gear
Graemme Brown
Zen Mastering
1460 Wild Rose Drive
Gabriola Island, BC
Canada V0R 1X5
+1.604.874.9096

Since the update to Pyramix 6.2.3, I cannot find the Gear drivers in this location any more - is the only solution to go directly to http://www.gearsoftware.com/downloads.p ... 86_x64.exe ? (I'm quoting this directly from the "Known Issues with 6.2" post.)

Doesn't the name of that file suggest that it is for a 64 bit operating system?

That file name says x86_x64 which implies that it is for either 32bit or 64bit OS.

No trick, as far as I know, just trying again and again...

Failing that, you could try to uninstall all the Gear drivers with this:
http://www.gearsoftware.com/downloads.p ... emover.exe

..., and then try installing the proper drivers (that come with Pyramix) once again.

Speaking of Gear driver versions, it appears that the July 26 issue of Gear Driver version 4.016.2 was to address a security vulnerability, and is supposed to be unchanged from the earlier version (that came with Pyramix) in all other respects. With Pyramix 7 just around the corner, this may be a moot point, but for those who won't be upgrading right away, this may be worth checking out.

When using the unistall above I get this error:
"RNBOVDD.DLL An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization, Choose 'Close' to terminate the application"
Also the main pyramix install freezes on 99%, there are topics on that in this form. it is because of the gear drivers.
Will do som research and see if I can make this work. worst case I have to install iTunes :)

Thanks for this! I was freaking out - thought I was going to need a new CD drive or something.

Are you experiencing issues? As you can probably see, this is a pretty old thread, and a lot of the issues with the Gear software came with Pyramix version 6 installers.

I found with my Native version that the recent Pyramix 7 installers did not stall during the part where the CD drivers are installed - everything went without a hitch. Of course, I usually uninstall Pyramix (using Add/Remove programs in Windows) prior to installing an update. This will remove everything that the installer, um, installs, but leaves your templates and any settings that you have made and saved, alone.
