Mykerinos ASIO driver - current situation?

Postby Daniel Kemper » Tue Dec 08, 2009 17:38

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to run a simple 8-track playback out of Samplitude (latest version 11.02) via the Mykerinos board (Pyramix version 6.1.8 installed, so I guess also the latest ASIO driver), and I'm having some serious trouble to output any signal on more than one channel. Everything is configured correctly within Samplitude, but the card only outputs channel #2, all others do not output any signal. I tried to change the EDL (btw. 48 kHz) to a simple 2-track project, but even then only one channel reaches the D/A converter.

Furthermore, there are also several stability issues when using the Mykerinos in Samplitude, especially graphic freezes which occur sporadically during changes in Samplitude's ASIO settings window or after opening the VIP project.

In Pyramix all works fine, so there is definitely no hardware problem with the Mykerinos board.

I found several threads refering to a whole bunch of problems associated with the Mykerinos ASIO driver, but most of these seem to refer to older Pyramix versions. So I thought by now things maybe could have improved... Is anybody up to date regarding the use of the Mykerinos board in another application than Pyramix, using the ASIO driver?

Regards

Hi, Daniel
I use actually samplitude music studio 2008 "deluxe" a light version of samplitude and it works fine with asio mykerinos driver, BUT ;)
hum, the asio mykerinos driver is only to help you if you need to work with an other DAW.... If you type "y" progam options you can see the list of asio drivers and select it and type "controi panel" and you have acces to the settings panel of the Mykerinos asio driver you have also to right-click in the mixer asio mykerinos to acces to the settings and here, you can manage the output level of your daughter card, and you have to connect the "mykerinos asio mixer" to the daugther card.
good luck : )
Excuse my bad english,

best regards,
bernard

Hi Bernard,

thanks for your answer, and sorry for my late reply - I was not able to continue my investigations earlier.

I already tried to find any relevant Mykerinos settings out of the Samplitude's system options before, but this only opens the "Pyramix Settings" which do not seem to be helpful in this case. The ASIO buffer size can be changed, and there is also a routing dialog for different sampling frequencies which enables you to connect to physical I/Os to logical I/Os. This all seems to be fine.

Beside the Pyramix Settings I can reach via the Samplitude system options, I also took a deeper look into VS3 Control Panel (with Samplitude being closed again), and I do not quite understand the ASIO settings there. At the bottom of the page there is a "MT ASIO Bridge" where you can specify the number of I/O channels - but it is greyed out, see attached screenshot. For the RME device (which is also installed on that machine) these settings are available. Does this MT ASIO Bridge only works for the Mykerinos board on MassCore systems? The manual sounds like that, but it is not 100 % clear to me.

Anyway, I am still not able to output more than one channel out of Samplitude via the Mykerinos. Any changes done to all these settings while Samplitude is open causes the whole system to freeze for several seconds, and there were also sporadic Samplitude crashes. The whole thing does not seem really stable. :?

Any more hints on this?

Thanks and regards
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
A very important thing is that the mykerinos asio driver "exist" only if you select it in samplitude (Y / asio mykerinos driver). If samplitude is closed, there is not asio mykerinos. :)
in the window's taskbar you can see a little "pyramide" it is the logo of the asio mykerinos mixer. right-click and select "show mixer" then, you can see the asio mixer, it is exactly the same than the "bus mixer" of Pyramix, and here you can change everything :D you can put effects, VS3 VST etc... and manage your system
 I hope this can help you !
best regards,
Bernard

Hi Bernard,

sorry again for answering late - but it finally works. I just didn't see this symbol in the Windows system tray. Though, everything still seems really instable, so nevertheless we will probably switch to an RME audio card. Conclusion, as far as I can say from my personal experience now: ASIO driver situation still not really satisfying...

Thanks again for your help, have some nice Christmas days,

Daniel
