Algorithmix compressor & Flux DSP overs

Postby Jonathon Stevens » Sat Oct 10, 2009 03:38

I'm a new owner of the Algorithmix LP split comp (great compressor btw). I've noticed there's a significant increase in the DSP core usage when I open the GUI for the plug-in. The Load also seems to become more erratic, jumping around and sometimes causing dsp core overloads. This may be more of a general question, but is this normal behavior from a VST plugin for the GUI to consume additional resources like this?

Hi!

I also run the SplitComp (in PMX version 6.1) but have not experienced any overload problems with the plugin (used mainly for 2 track mastering) . Is it causing the overloads with only the Algorithmix running or are there other plugins in you project?
I had the same problem with a while ago but it turned out to be the video card causing the overloads. When I went from a GeeForce card to a ATI card the overloads went away..

best regards,
Morten

thanks for the tip, when i have some free time i'll try and install a merging tested video card to see if that helps.

Radeon x1650, can you recommend something that might be more compliant?

@redroom

have you had any issues with delay compensation not working properly with the split comp? If you try and use it to compress a single instrument for example.

Well, that *should* be OK, but we all know how that goes...

I've had good results with the nVidia Quattro NV290 but it's not on the recommended list, so...

One thing worth mentioning is that the recommended driver for the ATI stuff is not the full 'Catalyst Control Center' package but just the most basic driver. The same goes for the nVidia card's software too.

Best,

Thanks for the suggestions, I just double checked and reinstalled the x1650 display driver. I used the Catalyst installer downloaded from their site, but only installed the display driver portion. Still getting the same problem with flux limiter II.

No time to get a new card at the moment, but will try your nVidia in a few weeks when i have more time. Unless you've got any other idea's...? Am i using the wrong ATI driver? is there one that's not part of the Catalyst installer package i should be looking for instead? Thanks!!

Hi Jonathon,

I think you're doing everything you need to be doing, with respect to drivers and video cards....

After installing the MR-1 update, I saw the same "100% VST overload" indication you mentioned while using the Flux Pure Limiter II plug-in. It's fine while playing but 'overloaded' when stopped. This is with the latest Flux installer (2.0.21.2130). I think that Gael had a slightly newer version with him at the AES show; I'll ask him and report back.

thanks Graemme, i also reported the issue through the Flux website but didn't hear anything back, and i know JV was able to duplicate this as well last week, don't know if it fixed itself.

In the meantime i think i will still try the latest recommended merging video card, the Sapphire HD3450, since it's available so cheaply and i'll be driving past the computer store on the weekend. I'd like to at least rule that out as the source of the problem.

Hi Jonathon,

After installing the new 'build 2281' of the Flux plug-ins, I no longer see the 'VST overloads / 100%' when the EDL is in stop. Now, if only the stupid 'bypass switch' problem would be fixed ;->

Please let us know what you find after updating your Flux plug-ins.

i'm trying to upgrade to the 2.0.22.2281 mastering bundle but am getting the following error during installation:

Service 'FluxB'(FluxB)failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

Retrying only comes up with the same error. The previous installer I've got works fine, but the DSP load still increases when not playing back.

just to follow up the free bitter sweet II and stereo tool 2.0.22.2281 both seem to install fine.

in the previous installer that i have 2.0.21.2130 FluxB shows up as running in the services window, which makes me think there's a problem with the mastering pack installer with the newer version. I've made an error report on the Flux website about the mastering Pack installer.

Same problem here with the Full pack installer. The rollback option in the installer doesn't work either. A full new install of the older version is necessary.

My comments about the 'DSP over in stop' being fixed by build 2281 were premature. Not sure why, but this started happening again yesterday.
