Markers moving with audio

Postby Perfect Record » Fri Jul 24, 2009 01:28

I know this is an old topic, but here goes again.

Every day I waste time because marks don't travel with audio. Here are some reasons why it's important:

When producers edit a movement of a work, they mark noises and sometimes internal movement breaks. When we compile the complete CD, those marks are gone.

Sometimes we need to do a second revised version of a CD. It's very valuable to have some kind of mark that travels with audio so that we can replace the PQ marks more quickly.

In summary, anywhere you can copy and paste edited audio, the marks should travel along with the audio.

This should be an option not the rule - (which I believe has been on the back burner for a while - or at least there have been many discussions about this (having markers that show up in the clip and not the timescale)). While in the type of work you are doing Preston it makes complete sense for markers to always follow audio (as what else are they there for) - when it comes to using markers in a variety of other applications, specifically with respect to post production this behaviour would not always be desirable.

Personally I am all for two types of markers - one tied to the timeline and another tied to the audio.

All I'm gonna say is that this has been requested by us here since about 2002. Somehow Sonic figured out how to do it in 1990......

All the best,

You certainly aren't alone, on both points...and I really don't understand why it hasn't been a higher priority.

And while we are at it: please make this work also on VCube, hmmmkay? Not moving Videoclip related markers might be even considered a bug, no? ..... At least it is pretty stupid, imho.

I agree with all of the above and would just like to add a few things.

1. Maybe a contextual menu for markers could be useful. Right click on a marker to change name, color etc.

2. When you export markers with Project-Export-Report Printer there is a field named Comment but I don't see this field under the Markers tab. If it's there somewhere please let me know, if not add it to the wish list.

3. I would like the reconform function to handle markers a like track so they would be recut with the rest of the sequence. Now the stay in the old position and makes no one happy.

Thank you! /Tomas
