Fade Editor Window, fade memory recall disappears

Postby tim » Tue Sep 09, 2008 20:29

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed (or is bothered by) the fact that in V 6.0 SP1, the fade memory recall boxes lose their memory settings the moment the fade editor is closed. Used to be that these recall settings would remain when you re-opened the fade editor for the same fade (they would always disappear if you open the fade editor for a different fade). These recall functions are used all the time for classical editing, and it is annoying if you need to close the FEW for a moment in order to e.g. play a longer pre-roll from the timeline.

Hi Tim,

I could reproduce the bug and confirm that it was introduced at some points in the V6.0 developement.
We'll try to correct this one, bug ID:MT002354

Hi Tim, thanks for pointing this out. One other Fade Edit Window thing (which might just be a user setting I have wrong):

I have the tabs docked under the timeline.
I open the Fade Edit Window (not in a tab, but as a floating window) to edit a fade.
When I click the "thumbs up" icon to accept the fade and close the window...
the floating window closes, but it becomes an open FEW on the right-hand side of the timeline (as if in a tab with the tabs docked over on that right hand side as they can be).
I have to move the mouse over to that place and click the little window close cross in the top right hand corner of it again to get it to go away.
V5 didn't do this. Why does V6 (SP1) and how do I stop it?

(PS - Ricardo - when you hover the mouse over the "next fade" icon in the FEW, the legend that pops up says "Nest Fade")

Hi Ricardo & AVI -

Thanks, Ricardo, for your response....if this can be fixed it will be a great help.

AVI - try Graemme's macro for correcting the FEW behavior in V6....

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the suggestion. Doesn't that macro deal with opening the FEW, though? I don't seem to have an issue with that, it's closing it that doesn't work as expected.
Maybe I need to create a macro for this too. A mite irritating that a tool we use so much appears to have taken a small step backwards since v5, at lest in some respects!!

This has bothered me too since upgrading to v6. To edit a crossfade I move the cursor close to a fade, hit the "w" key, tweak the edit and click the "thumbs up" icon. This used to work fine in v.5. Are there better/other ways to edit a cross-fade ?

Hi Kees,

There is no need to click on the 'thumbs up' icon - the fade will be there in the EDL when the FEW is closed by double-clicking on it's title bar.

As to the problem you described, I have not experienced this on my systems. I use a macro to open the FEW (and the same one to close it) - the FEW happily docks back in to the tabs along the bottom of my screen.

My system is set to 'Dock back floating tabs when closing them', which is found in the Settings Window, under Applications/Desktop layout. Try changing this to either of the two settings and see what happens.
