Plugin Insertion in Monitor panel

Postby Paulo M » Sun Aug 12, 2012 17:47

Hi,

the monitor panel in Pyramix allows for audio delay in the monitoring path, which is a fantastic feature for those requiring delay adjustment in the monitoring chain, to compensate for plasma/lcd/projector video processing delays. It´s a feature most DAWs don´t have, so it´s good to know that in that respect Pyramix is ahead of the competition.

To elevate the degree of functionality, I would like to suggest the ability to insert a software or hardware processing in the monitor chain.

Software insertion:

The idea is that room monitoring correction software, for instance like IK ARC2, could be inserted in the monitoring chain, instead of the final mix bus, as you may forget to disable the plugin prior to mixdown. Other uses include the insertion of a metering or loudness plugin, instead of placing it in the mixbus, so that your audio doesn´t need to pass through it, as it´s in fact measuring the signal, not processing in a traditional way.

Hardware insertion:

In Pyramix you can add an hardware processing device, by choosing Other/External on normal plugin insertion on strips and busses. Having the same ability to do it in the monitor panel, on the desired monitor path, allows for example insertion of hardware meters, like DK, RTW, TC Electronics M6000/Radar etc, without the need to use the dedicated metering outputs, thus in fact saving I/O on the converter side.
Other monitor processors could also be inserted, like graphic EQ´s or even most complete systems like Trinnov, although in this last case, the feed to the speakers is also done in the outs of the device, post processing.

Both hardware and software insertion needed to be delay compensated to the existing monitor panel delay offset of course, so that delays introduced by either plugin or external audio path could be subtracted to the number of ms set in the monitor panel delay feature.

Thanks
Best regards,

Paulo M
