Would be great to have a simple way to export a pqed cd to individual files, in 24/16bit bwav or mp3) to deliver to clients who want to check individual songs on a cd. I know i can change the image file to .wav, but this is a 16bit file where all the tracks are together.
Would be nice if there was a way of using autonaming these files using a user selectable combination of track name, cd text info and isrc. Even better if the info I dont use for the file name can be optionally included as meta data.
Another related issue. Could settings for the mixdown window be dragged into libraries? Would save a lot of time!
Best
Chris

Re: Exporting cd file
I agree that having access to the individual CD track information would be useful, especially in an archival situation.
Here at BSU, we record the concert performances of the School of Music, and archive the results. For the last few years, we've been recording to an Alesis Masterlink, creating a CD and then extracting that CD to Jam on the Mac. At this point, we have about three and a half years worth of Jam Images stored on DVDs and hard drives. The Jam Image is an SD2 file, so it includes the individual track information entered as CD text, and this information can be accessed by any audio editing software able to deal with SD2 files, such as Peak (I don't know if Pyramix is capable when it opens an SD2 Jam image file - I'll have to try it and see).
As we've been using Pyramix more and more for concert recording, it would be nice to be able to start archiving the CD images that Pyramix creates, but the worry always persists - what will become of this file format in ten to fifteen years? Yes, Discwrite can access the individual track information, provided it's entered as CD Text, but it would be nice if this information were accessible by more than one means - to "future-proof" the archive, at least to some degree.
Would it be possible to store this information as metadata in a Broadcast Wave file?
Would it be much of a modification to change the CD image that Pmx produces to be such a file, and still function as the basis for CD creation with Discwrite?

Hi Frank,
The .pmi CD image file format is actually a standard wave file with an XML data chunk (part of the header) that describes CD-Text, etc. You can change the filename extension on a '.pmi' file to '.wav' and open it in Windows Media Player.
At the Banff Centre, they've written a Java-based application that extracts the CD-Text, etc. from the XML header of the '.pmi' image and then separates the CD-tracks into individual files, appropriately named.
This is the basis of their archiving system and they say it works well for them.
Any competent XML programmer could handle this task, with the added bonus of being able to integrate the extraction into something that your university's IT department would have a hand in developing.

pmi to wav
The name changing trick is great but often i need to export 24bit individual files. Any suggestions to cut out the copy name and mixdown times 11 (or however many tracks are on the album)?
Thanks
Chris

Re: Exporting cd file
Hi again,
A year on and Im still missing this kind of functionality. Would it not be possible to add a box in generate cd image to generate individual files instead? This could lead on to the option of bit depth, sample rate, file type (wav, aif,mp3?) and file naming (auto generated from an user selected combination of track number, track title, album title and artist - from cd text).
Even better would be to select multiple bit depths and file types and let Pyramix get on with it.
Clients are more and more requesting wav and mp3 files at the same time as a ddpi file/audio cd. This option would save both time and the chance of error when naming files.
Anyone else feel the same?
Chris

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. More and more clients request 24bit files and MP3's and manual export takes ages (neither renaming .pmi images nor render+split by groups really does the job..)
Chris' idea about adding more features to the "generate CD image" is great!
The ability to export i.e. 24bit/48k files to the people doing music videos in a single click of a button would save me a lot of time..
As Pyramix is turning into a very popular mastering DAW, I think it would be a welcomed feature to satisfy the mastering guys..
Could this perhaps be a future feature??
Kind regards,
Morgan N

Re: Exporting cd file
Any news on this subject?
Will this function by any chance be included in v7 or v8?

Re: Exporting cd file
I wrote a small utility a year or so ago to extract the tracks from a pmi as individual wave files. I have considered adding to it so that the same cd toc information could be used with a mixdown of any samplerate/wordlength - however, all these features are something that merging has talked about adding directly into the image generation window, and I had hoped they would be in version 7, but sadly they are not.
Anyway in the meantime if you find yourself wanting wave files of the individual tracks from your images:

Thanks Mark, that looks like a useful tool!
Re: Exporting cd file
Hi Mark,
Thanks for sharing! That's very generous of you!
So you're saying that it would be possible to combine the TOC-data with a hi res audio file?
Integrated export of hi res audio files generated by CD TOC will hopefully be a feature in v8 (or earlier..).
You are definetly on the right track and it sounds like you've also got the know how to make a solution..?
Merging should either get their stuff together or give you a call. Just my humble opinion..
Kind regards,
Morgan

Re: Exporting cd file
Merging has added more options in the mixdown dialog for v7 that are very helpful and a start in the right direction, so I'm hoping that the ability to mixdown based on cd toc is on the horizon.
I'm loathe to make the time to add this functionality to my own utility as I don't want to find that two weeks later the functionality is built-into pmx on a service pack release - in addition it wouldn't be very elegant as you'd have to export the toc separately from the audio while making certain to mixdown only from 1st cd start mark to final cd stop mark...

Mark
