As a frequent user of the so-called "Parallel Compression" technique, where a Dynamics plug-in is placed on a Sub-Group so that its output is mixed with the unprocessed (uncompressed) signal from the original track/strip, I was thinking that all that is needed to simplify this often tedious set-up and adjusting process, would be the addition of a "Wet/Dry" balance control, like those found frequently on Reverb and Delay units, to the Current Dynamic's plug-in architecture (incorporating automatic latency compensation, so that the two streams are in sync).
All "Wet" would be the same as the current compression operation; All "Dry"would result in no compression at all; any and all points in-between, and you'd have some quantity of "bottom-up" level adjustment, whereby quieter sections of material would play at a higher level (thanks to Gain Makeup), but once it gets louder the uncompressed stream would become more of a dominating factor.
A major benefit of this technique is fewer audible compression artifacts during louder passages, because they are masked by the uncompressed signal. Having one control, as opposed to the current need for the use of two mixer faders, would certainly be a benefit for those of us who drive things with a mouse.

Re: Dynamics Plug-in: Add a Wet/Dry Balance control.
As I mentioned in another thread, most of my concerns about this issue could be addressed by developing the ability to assign a single timeline Track, to more than one Mixer Strip.
That way, we wouldn't have to fuss with SubGroups or Direct Outs in the Mixer to create parallel signal streams - we could simply access them directly from the source tracks.

Re: Dynamics Plug-in: Add a Wet/Dry Balance control.
Hi Frank,
I agree with you regarding the ability to be able to assign one track to more than one strip.
By the time being, everytime I want to have paralel compression I duplicate the track. Then I can insert one plugin in one strip with a diferent compression setting than the other one. This also allows me to keep balancing the levels of each compression track at will during the mix.

Assign single track to multiple channels. Like it a lot! That would be dead useful.

Re: Dynamics Plug-in: Add a Wet/Dry Balance control.
Paulo,
I've done exactly what you're suggesting, duplicating a track in order to route it to more than one mix strip. Yes it works, but I always cringe when the producer decides that he wants a "quick little edit" in those tracks. This always seems to happen when you think that the edit is locked in, and its time to mix.
I'm 100% with Frank on needing the ability to route to multiple tracks.

Yes, me too, my sugestion is just a way to do it until your sugestion is implemented

I agree that when you need last minute edits then it not that straight forward though you can always edit on the parent track and then duplicate with Ctrl+D on top of the other channel.
