(Horus) ASIO virtual device offline after restart/poweron

Postby Mike Rosoft » Thu Oct 27, 2022 13:29

Hi all,
we have several horus and hapi units at my work, on one of the machines i have this problem. (windows 10) After restart or just startup, the asio device is shown as offline in Aneman and not showing in the network discovery frame in the MAD panel. The hardware unit (in this case Horus) is shown.
The Horus is connected directly to this machine with no network switches, using fixed ip address. The windows firewall is off.

After clicking on "restart server" in MAD panel the problem is resolved. So it's not so problematic but just a little annoying :D
Anyone else with this problem or with solution to it ? :)

I have the same problem. After every restoring my PC from Hibernation or Sleep, Ravenna doesn't work. Maybe from cold startup as well, but I don't remember. Anyway, when this occurs, Aneman shows the local MAD PC as grayed out - not present. But the MAD driver is up and running and shows status as good. To resolve it, I have to click on "Restart Server" from the MADPanel. That often resolves it. I've just learned to live with it, but I really don't like it.

Unlike you, I AM using the Windows firewall (with Rules to allow Ravenna traffic through it), and I am using an external router. So that is different in my setup. But the problem is the same.

Also, I'm using Nuendo as a DAW. Usually after I reset MAD as described above, Nuendo doesn't connect correctly to MAD. It shows as connected, but no audio flows and all meters in NUENDO do not move. To resolve that, from the Nuendo menu, I have to go to Studio -> Studio Setup -> Audio System -> Merging Audio Device, and click the "Reset" button at the bottom of that subwindow. Then things work. But what a pain to have to first get MAD working so that Aneman and see it, and then also have to reset MAD in Nuendo so that Nuendo will work.

Yes, there are workarounds to these issues. But not everyone is willing to figure out the workarounds. And those that do figure out workarounds still find them to be a pain in the butt! It's stuff like this that makes people want to stay away from 'complicated' technologies. Ideally, it should 'just work'.
