ASIO driver clipping above 0dBFS

Postby pepe44 » Tue Mar 30, 2021 16:26

Hello dear forum users.
Hope this message gets delivered to the merging company.
Today i was doing some test in wavelab and noticed that a sinewave @ 1KHz when exceeds the 0dBFS by a decimal value 0.01dBFS the converters clip. Becomes instant square wave. I did the same exact test using multiple DAWS (Reaper, Pyramix and Cubase). They all did the same.
i ran the same exact test using a different converter and that didnt happen.

I asked a friend of mine to make the same test using his ANUBIS , same firmware, same test tone settings and he said that no clipping occurs.
The only difference was between the ASIO windows driver and the macOS version.
After that he went to PC running latest ASIO driver and did the test, instant clipping , very nasty intermittent square wave.
Is there anyone in the forum capable of testing this ?
Is is an ASIO limitation compared to the coreaudio one ?

Thanks all
All the best

Yes, ever since Merging established the online Knowledge Base, this forum has become a ghost town complete with dusty tumbleweed blowing through on the wind.

In your first post you stated your hope that it would get through to Merging support, which is probably going to be a disappointment. You'd be much better advised to contact them directly at support@merging.com.
