Hi everyone,
I just bought a HAPI, with two of the new ADA8S cards. I assumed the Line Out on the cards functions like the Direct Out on the older generation cards... but, I get no audio passing through to my backup recorder as it stands. I see no where to route, turn on, or activate a signal to the Line Outs on the cards... any ideas? I'm sure I'm missing something...
Thank you for the help - Chris

Re: Line Out/Direct Out on new ADA8s cards
As you've discovered, these are not the same as the cards with direct outs. With the AKD8D/AKD8DP (the "D" near the end of the model means direct out), you're passing audio before it hits the converter, which makes for a true backup.
If you want the ADA8S/ADA8P (and the original ADA8 version) card to behave similarly, you'll need to route audio via ANEMAN, the HAPI web interface, or through your DAW to get the outputs operational. I expect you'll have some added latency, though for a backup recorder perhaps this is okay. That depends on your situation.
I am not sure what happens if your computer crashes during recording, if you'll lose audio routed through ANEMAN. And I'm not 100% you can route an output to an input within ANEMAN. I tried to do this a few weeks ago to use it as a standalone DAC, and it did not work. The web interface method should work, though. Or exchange the card for an AKD8D with direct outs. Good luck and let us know how it turns out?
Cheers,
-Charlie
