Dear All,
I was wondering if anyone with the technical knowhow might be able to tell me which components most effect rendering speed and therefore what to prioritise if I was looking to build a new machine or even if I would get much improvement with a new machine?
My current specs are: i5 2500K 3.3GHz, 8GB RAM, SSD system drive, 1TB 7200rpm audio drive, Intel H67 Chipset
If I went to a i7 3770K based system does anyone know what the improvement might be like?
I presume CPU and Hard drives are two of the most critical, but do chipset, RAM, GPU etc make a difference?
Many thanks,
Will

Re: Components that most effect render speed
P.S I should probably also have added that I'm running Win 7 SP1 and Pyramix 7.1.10 Hotfix 16157
Re: Components that most effect render speed
Hi,
the main difference between i5 and i7 are the hyperthreading, which is a thing Pyramix don´t use.
In terms of performance, in the same i5, between second and third generation is not a night and day thing.
If you want to upgrade to the i7 3930k (6 cores instead of 4), and you are using multi core Masscore that will mean something

Re: Components that most effect render speed
Thanks Mario,
I'm running a Native system not Masscore unfortunately. Do you know if multiple cores actually get used when rendering and is it just the cpu or is the gpu involved too?
Cheers,
Will
