Time for a new machine

Postby flurdee » Thu Sep 23, 2010 10:55

Seems like its time to replace my trusty hard working PC ready for version 7. Does anyone have any comments as to whether this would be a compatible setup?

Mykerinos MB5 (revE - 200mHz) with Masscore

motherboard: ASUS P7H57D-V EVO
cpu: INTEL CORE I7 870
memory: Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 8GB KIT, CL9
gpu: SAPPHIRE RADEON HD4350 1GB DUAL HEAD
ssd: INTEL X25-M 2,5" 80GB SSD
hdd: WESTERN DIGITAL RE4 2TB 7200RPM SATA2
WIndows 7 32bit

What's the current recommended CD-burner with bundled error check tools besides Plextor/Plextools?

Thanks (in advance) for your comments!

Hi Chris,

seems like a good setup. Some notes:

1-Check if your Mykerinos MB5 is fully compatible in Win7 and Pyramix V7 using that MOBO to avoid surprises.
2-Regarding the Saphire dual head, I found it hard to find on stock. I end up installing two Radeon 4350 silent from ASUS with 1 GB each. They are really cheap, silent and have HDMI native suport.
3-Assuming you´ll be using the SSD drive for OS, I would personally go for a WD Raptor with 300GB for audio, which is a 10K rpm drive and use the WD 2TB 7.200K for backups. I use 10K WD drives on my systems and never had a problem, apart from the noise found on the older 75 GB models. The 300GB and 150GB ones do not have that issue. Good luck with the assembly. Let´s us know how it goes.
Best regards,

Paulo M

I checked out this mobo, it looks good. USB 3.0...is it finally here (after having been promised for 2+ yrs)? Not to hijack this thread, but I wonder what uses/compatibilities other users have so far encountered with USB 3. Has anyone found a vendor offering good external media drives with this interface?
