Hi dear Pyramix Users,
Since this is my first post on this board, may I quickly introduce myself:
I am Georg, recording engineer based in Vienna, doing mostly classical music, and I just moved after 15 years of SADiE to Pyramix. So I am an absolute greenhorn here.
We are currently planning a second studio and control room, and as we can not replicate our primary CR with the large Studer mixing desk due budget and space constraints, I am looking for alternatives that still have a good tactile feeld and feedback.
I know the mackie controls, and I just tested the avid artist mix, so I clearly know what I do not want.
Which brings us in the world of high end controllers, which, unfortunately, is not too large.
I once followed a demo of the Tango controller and remember its beautiful concept and sturdy build quality. As the company is out of business for three years now, of course it is unsupported,and new features that were implemented afterwards in Pyramix are not or only partially supported.

Are there any more caveats? Tangos can be had for quite cheap...
Can maybe some still active Tango users comment on day to day workflow implications?

I own a dead Tango 2.
A few years ago the SSD failed midway through a mixing project. I moved over to my Artist Mix to finish the project and then replaced the SSD. That all appeared to work so I returned my Tango to the cupboard ready for the next project to come along. I don't use it all the time.
On getting it out again, I noticed that though the touch screen worked, the controls were un responsive. Looking inside I noticed that all the hardware controls were connected by USB to the motherboard, so I guess the USB system had failed. It might be an easy fix but without the support of SmartAV I've returned the Tango to the cupboard and now I use the Artist Mix exclusively.
The point of this tale is that my personal experience and having looked inside, I would suggest that the resilience of the hardware, or lack of it, is something you should consider if you want to find yourself a "previously loved" Tango.
As you know SmartAV is no more, so there is zero support. My dealer in the UK, has access to the firmware and SSD images, or at least they did have, but they are not interested in providing extensive support. Neither would I expect them to.
If I was ever to get the time and it was an easy fix, I would make an effort to repair the Tango myself as it is a great control surface, but alas I suspect that will never happen.
I hope you find a solution that works for you.
