I am wondering about the advantages of SMP masscore (multi-core) support.
"In MassCore RAVENNA mode the Core1 will always be dedicated to I/Os and the other Cores will share the audio processing... MassCore multi-core support option is only available with MassCore SMP key"
Is SMP masscore (multi-core) able to spread I/O s over more than one core, or will it just divide i/o from VS3 processing ?
Will VS3 plugin processing ever move to windows/VST allocated cores under normal or extreme operation, or when mixed with VSTs on the same bus or strip ?

Re: MassCore / SMP vs VST cores
Hi,
At start up, MAsscore allocate cores for its engine, the remaining will be in the OS.
If you have a total of 4 cores, you can allocate 2 for Masscore, hence, there will be 2 for Windows.
VST plugins will always run on windows resources and VS3 willalways run on Masscore resources.
the text stays, that with several cores in Masscore, you will have one core for the I/O and the remaining for processing (in this case 1 core).
Windows will see only 2 cores for the GUI duties and VS3 plugins.
If you have 6 cores, you can use another distribution

Thanks Mario.
The Pyramix 8.1 manual discusses VST thread distribution (Ch26: VST Core Allocation), but not VS3 or I/O (that i can find). The above text was quoted from a FAQ forum.
The quote does seem to suggest that I/O will remain on one core, but I was hoping to confirm or clarify if the I/O would ever be split between more than one core (eg. in a 6 or 8 core SMP setup). Perhaps there would never be the need.
Based on the VST accounts, one assumes that VS3 processing can be split, but a thread from a single strip-chain can not.
In native modes, would not VS3 operation occur on windows resources? This was my query: if VS3s may also migrate to non-Masscore usage under certain circumstances. As you mention, it really doesn't seem to be the case.
Still, if anyone has more clarification or info on thread distribution/core allocation, it would be of interest.
