Tabs always on Second Screen

Is it possible to setup Tabs and tab windows (Media Mgt, CD/SACD, Track, Track Groups etc) to dock and always show and be positioned on a second screen and never at the base or side of the timeline on the main screen?

yes, this is how i work. just drag everything over to the screen where you want the tabs. it doesn't matter which side the screen is on from your main edit window. i'm holding onto V6, but assuming this is the same in V7.
unless there's a way to set this up with workspaces (with which i have no experience), you'll need to save a template with this layout. otherwise, you'll have to re-do it for every project. i'm pretty sure it is not global.

I drag them over but they don't stay there. The docking destinations are only on the main screen. I am not sure it is possible to save a second screen layout in PMX.

David,
I don't use multiple screens, so this may be a worthless suggestion, but...:
Once you've got your Tabs placed as you want them, go to the View Menu > Editor Tabs > Save Default Tabs Layout, and then enable "Always Use Default Tabs Layout".
Another suggestion might be to right click on any Toolbar (like the buttons at the top of the main display, or the Transport Controls at the bottom) and "Save Toolbars Layout". (This probably has nothing to do with the Tabs layout, but can it hurt to try?).

This is probably a videocard issue. I'd browse thrugh the options provided with your videocard.

The video card works fine with all other apps to second screen. It appears to me that you cannot dock Tabs to a second screen in PMX and keep them there. In fact you can't dock them there to start with.

Hi,
I work with two screens, and I dock my tabs in the second screen without any kind of problem.
in my display settings (windows) I'm configurated in "extended screen"
And for the tabs settings I use the option : closing dock tabs etc... (I'm not in front of my DAW)
I want to know if you loose your tabs after closing / re-opening a project ?
Because it has to be placed where you dock it, so (for example) I let a part of tabs in the first screen,
and I keep fade editor, playlist, track and group tracks in the second screen.
I suggest you to check your desktop settings in Pyramix.
Happy new year,
Bernardo de Lavalla

Hi Bernardo,
I can make the tabs open to the second extended screen, but cannot put the tab DOCK there. The little blue docking arrows are only on the first screen.

Hi,
I have an idea :
Have you extended the Pyramix general window to the second screen ? (I happened to open the Pyramix general windows only on the first screen, and the mixer / vu meter /plugs windows on the second screen).
It's not the case ?
Can you :
make a "repair" for Pyramix.
And check / update your Net.framework...
I think it's a driver problem.
Best regards

I put the mixer window on the second screen and it stays there but that's because it's not dockable. I do not want to extend the timeline across screens needless to say. It's the TAB bar I want to get off the main screen.

please help me understand. why does it need to be dockable? on my system, having all of my tabs in a floating window occupying almost all of my second monitor stays where it should. the tab bar displays on the bottom.
the only thing that happens is occasionally i inadvertently press enter with the fade editor tab open, and it docks that single tab onto my main window. when that happens, i simply drag that tab back to the where all the others are and drop it on top. it takes 5 seconds to fix.
as i understand it, V7 (and perhaps V8?) are slightly better at tab handling, so this should work fine. if not, it very well may be a video driver or hardware, as others have suggested.

Thanks Charlie, now we are getting close. How do you create the second window to dock the tabs into?

It was not my question. It was an example.

i have Pyramix in the main window
not maximised, so that you
could extend the timeline into the other display but instead you drag the edge so it stays within the main display. then grab any tab header bar from the main screen and drag it to the other screen. it's very simple once you've done it. hope this helps.

Do you have the option 'Timeline Position at Project Creation' in the Pyramix Settings/TimeLine Layout set to 'On the left of Tab Windows'? You can then drag the main window across two screens with tabs on the 2nd screen and the timeline can be sized to fit on one screen.
This is fine for new projects, but I can't figure out how to change the layout of projects created on other single-screen systems. I end up having to manually undock the tabs and drag them over.
Hope this helps,
Tom
