Pyramix vs. Sonic waveform display

The waveform display of Pyramix (no matter what setting I use) is still no match for Sonic Solutions.... cant this be fixed?

Don't get me wrong in many other areas Pyramix is great BUT the waveform generation is an area that needs some major attention.

:( :?

I would have to agree. Though I have had to get used to it. But it could be better.

I find dynamic and times 8 works very well

I have access to both systems so I decided to do a compairison test for everyone. One song at different magnifications for each system. Pyramix was set to Dynamic waveform - Auto-Scale for the complete test

Hi Grant,

Thanks for that...quite interesting.

The next service release will remove the assymetry from the negative half of the waveform.

Best,

Graemme

And one more thing - "auto zoom" in Piramyx works not the same way, as in Sonic. It "normalize picture" inside every clip, but not on hole screen. This makes this mode unusable in some cases...

YES, very true. Could we see this fixed in the upcoming service pack as well? I have been chewing on Mergings ear for some time for this. (Don't know if this german idiom translates to english well :-) )

'Bending Merging's ear' would be better .

I don't know, I sort of like the picture I get from the 'chewing' version of the idiom.

The "auto zoom" feature should definitely take into account all visible clips. Another vote for...This is a Pain.

I agree, an "auto zoom" feature that would take into account all visible clips would be very nice.

I've become used to the Pmix waveform too, but I reallllly miss Sonic's accurate waveform. I thought the Sonic HD waveform to be the best out there, and if I ever saw a flat spot I knew clipping/severe limiting had happened. With Pmix I often get confused, esp at 8x. Most of my editing (which is mostly dialogue) is with autoscale on, dynamic waveform, with frequent toggles to x1 view via some hot keys to see where relative levels really are.

One thing that drives me nuts: when autoscale is on, every segment autoscales to the current scale, rather than in relation to the currently displayed peak. So, the waveform for room tone gets disproportionatly big compared to the dialogue surrounding it.

And while we're on the subject: I also really miss Sonic's peak search function, which moved the left gate to the loudest part of the selected audio. I found that extremely useful, and if anyone can tell me a workaround please do!

...and while we're at it, the handle to move the x-fade is right on top of the zero-cross point.

Excessive use of white backgrounds is painful. Please stop the pain.

Thank-you!

Does anyone have this problem with the waveform or is it unique to me.
When looking at about 2 minutes worth of material I can clearly see peaks. At the same zoom I can clearly see ticks that need to be removed at the end of quiet audio files. When I zoom in tight, The peaks are reduced significantly in the waveform, also, ticks that you can hear can't be seen at the tighter zooms. I've tried auto zoom but that is too disorienting for me. Any ideas?
Also the edit window show dramatically less resolution than the main screen....
