Look at the matrox parhelia because it supports three screens one being video out. I have been thinking of trying it and have a question into Merging on it but haven't heard anything. I have tried the video out through the video option in PMX and I was disapointed. So I am looking for an alternative

I've seen the parhelia, it works OK but the price on the new matrox P750 is much more attractive.
When you use the Canopus ADVC 100 to transfer PAL or NTSC video into VT it works great.
But when you try to find a sync point when editing (using the scroll) the PAL picture is out of sync 15 to 24 frames due to the delay involved in the SVGA to PAL conversion in the ADVC 100.
It seems that it's due to the fact that it goes from fire wire to SVGA and then converted to PAL.
A PCI card like Matrox should have no latency, which means that the SVGA and PAL output remain synced together at any speed.
I'll buy one tomorrow (Matrox P750 if I can find one available around) and keep you posted.

Are you saying DV (IEEE1394) fire wire Output through VT ???
I have tried VT outputting to fire wire to a Canopus box then to a video monitor for the client to watch as I am locking to video. It was very glittery when stopped, jumping back and forth between frames. Then there is the out of sync problem on playback, so trying to place sound to picture is a problem. Clients won't stand for these problems. Also the DV output in VT only likes certain flavors of files.
When I use the small window overlaid in PMX it all works fine, but the client can't see it. So I am looking for an alternative so I can still have both computer monitors and be able to output the locked video to a TV monitor. It seems like the Parhelia might work.

My company produces a lot of DVD's and therefore we are often involved with video, much of which is supplied on Digibeta or DVCAM.
One of the major problems involved with working with Digital video is latency caused by computing with it or converting it from a digital to an analogue signal. This same issue has come up several times. Always the timecode is correct in the "burn in" window for pyramix, but delays as soon as sent out to an external video monitor. IMHO I am sure that if you use even the latest Matrox cards you will still find a delay.
Video puts fairly high demands on hard drives (DV approx 4.5 meg/sec) if you need instant/random access video for viewing on an external monitor it would be really worth buying either another dedicated computer running something like Avid Express DV, of course mergings new digital video solution (providing the price is competetive) or using something like a firestore and run that in sync directly from the Pyramix.
If you have any external application applying the correct offset should solve your problem straight away.

Hi I have a matrox card and run 3 monitors. The third one is a Plasma and is fed off the composit video output of the Matrox Card. I did try running the third screen from the Canopus box but as has been said earlier it has a very bad delay. The only tip I can give with using the Matrox comp out is make sure the card is out putting the right type of video signal. It defaults to NTSC and 60 Hz.

I did a whole music video on an older Version of VT (when you did not need the key like today 
) and it was almost perfect.
Frst I used VT with DV output to a Sony DV-Cam. After adjusting the offset in VT the sync was perfect during playback, the only drawback: the delay till the DV picture started running and the switching between the frames in pause. So this setup was only good for playback.
BUT
I set up our old PC with only VT and synchronized it to the Audio Workstation with also VT and Pyra running. The synch between the VTs was excellent and so I made the second Computer for the DV output and on the Workstation I had Pyra and the DS Video Window in fast and perfect sync on dual screen with a matrox G550.
So I could do a fast and easy edit and syncing the multitrack Audio to the Video and have a look at the right colors and so on via the DV/Cam output which I put to a normal TV.
I used DV files, encoder 1, PAL, field A first
no probs at all!
