whats going on with that? its either seriously flawed or so is my understanding of its functionality.
is this fader not supposed to keep the relations of its individual member faders and when moved up or down to keep these? Or is there some logarithmic stuff going on that makes no linear sense?
Either way, when automating a vca, starting at unity and then return to it at the end of the run, then the member faders will definitely not end up where they started. At the worst case they will have lost their relation to each other and in the best case they will have kept it but at different values.
Perhaps the automation mode of choice has something to do with it.
any clarification/verification would be of great help.

Re: VCA group fader automation
Hi,
Yes, there are some issues with VCA automation (& at least one issue with automation in general) in V7 SP2. I described these carefully to Merging who have addressed them in the upcoming SP3. Specifically:
As far as I've been able to tell so far, the VCA automation in SP2 seems to work all right as long as you take an automation snapshot of the entire project (or area you want to automate). I do this with a 2-camera snapshot with Mark-In placed before the audio and Mark-Out after. Be sure the snapshot includes not only the VCA fader but any other faders linked to it. Without the snapshot, the fader positions don't init properly.
There's another automation bug in SP2: Auto-return works, but only as long as there is some automation data downstream of your position. Having a snapshot key-frame at the end of the audio is sufficient...but simply having a Write-to-End value (which you're attempting to Auto-return to) won't do it. This is also supposed to be fixed in V7 SP3.

Hello Tim
thanks for the info. I will try those workarounds for the moment.

Re: VCA group fader automation
Hi there!
Does anyone know, why it is not possible to move automation data of vca-groups on the timeline?
My mix gets totally screwed up if I try do edit->insert silence. In this case all audio and all track automation moves to the right, but all vca and bus automation remains at the same place. no chance of moving them together.
The same problem occurs, when I try to move audio with the fade editor.
I've got no idea how to work around this problem. It would be so nice to edit while keeping all automation data in sync...
