Avira and Flux/ "Malware Found"

Per some PMX user recommendations, I've installed Avira's anti-virus software.

When I launch a session file using Flux vst plugins, Avira "denies access" to the Flux plugins.

It launches a message to this affect:
------------------------------------
Avira
Guard: Malware found...
A virus or unwanted program...
Access to file was denied
Please select further action

Remove or Details.
-------------------------------------
Neither of these options allow me for it to put the program on a safe list or anything.

Thoughts? Or recommendations of another anti-virus program?

Thanks,
Paul

Check on the Avira Forum - there's an email address where you can send the program files for them to check. It's probably a false positive, and if they check out as such, then a subsequent update to their VDF will put them in the clear.

BTW, no problem with Bittersweet or Stereotool here....

Hi,

i don't remember very well but if you click "details", you should see right after on the window an option to "ignore" this warning" and put the file on a whitelist. This occurs only on WinXP, everything is fine under Win7.

Cheers

If you install one of the newer builds of the Flux plug-ins, this won't happen. (I have experienced this same problem with Avira / Flux).

I'm having this same problem again.

It was solved last time by updating to the most recent version of the plug-ins.

Just want to know if there is a simpler solution, or rather a recommendation of another (preferably free) anti-virus software that doesn't pose such conflicts.

I am running XP. I've tried this but it does not solve the problem.

Many thanks,
Paul

Flux seem to re-introduce this problem every other update. I'm experiencing the same issue with version 2.1.19.7099

Have you reported this to them?

Best,

In the meantime, why don´t you disable the anti-virus while Pyramix is running? There is no need for it for DAW operations, unless you are getting a lot of files from outside world. Nevertheless, once scanned, it´s fine. I run Pyramix with antivirus and internet off, why bother?

No I haven't

For the meantime you can actually disable Avira, load the mixer with what ever flux pug-ins and then re-enable Avira and it doesn't detect anything fishy.

I guess I'm just a crazy kid who doesn't see why one would be on a computer with out the internet on. Why bother? I like reading the news online between loading sessions, or while the mixer has to rebuild itself every single time you load a plug-in. What is this 1995?

Of course is not 1995, although sometimes I wish it was, oil prices were lower then :)

I like to check emails or surf the web in between projects too, but I try not to have unnecessary processes running in the background at the same time I´m working in Pyramix or any other DAW, eg. anti virus or installed applications connecting to the web without me knowing. I already experimented antivirus software downloading updates and slowing down my system amongst other "evil" things. If that coincides with certain Pyramix actions, you´re asking for trouble. I have the two lan ports on the PC, one for my Isis controller and the other for online access. I have the shortcut on my desktop, just right click it and hit disable. Really simple. Regarding the anti virus, turning it off while working, it´s one of Merging recommended actions, they probably know better the reasons than me.

Plus all utilities and apps that you have installed other than the strictly necessary, will slow down your machine and run processes in background. Just open win task manager/processes and check for yourself your valuable resources being eaten out.

Best to use a smaller computer or a laptop to check emails, news and surf the web and keep a dedicated machine optimised for work. Well, I confess that I didn´t get there yet, so I live with the consequences :)

I'm often downloading updates to tracks that are part of any mastering project that I'm working on. Other than this unnecessary and incorrect flagging of the Flux plug-ins as malware, I'm happy with how Avira stays 'out of the way' and still does a great job catching malicious software.

Additionally, all of my machines are networked here, so a virus can still end up on my Pyramix rig, even if it isn't directly running a web browser. So, I'll stick with my plan...

Always grateful for the hep Graemme.

What exactly is your plan?

Thanks,
Paul

My plan is to keep running Avira on my Pyramix machine and bugging Flux to fix the problems when they arise. I just got word from Ziggy at Flux that this problem has been fixed for the next release which is 'due soon'.

You can also exclude the Flux folder to be scanned in Avira's (advanced) settings.
Not the safest but you can work.

cheers

Hi All,

The Flux plug-ins have been revised and include a fix for the Avira detection bug as well as a preset manager problem that prevented saving setups.

Version 2.2.0, March 10, 2011

I have not yet installed and tested this new version.
