Punch-In preroll?

Postby tim » Mon Mar 17, 2008 20:58

I have just noticed that, on my system (V 5.1 SP3), when punching in to record between Mark-In and Mark-Out, the system prerolls to 3 seconds before the Mark-In point, and then goes into record at the Mark. The only way I can eliminate the preroll is to place the timeline cursor exactly at the Mark-In point, then press Record. If the cursor is anywhere else (at the end of the previous recorded segment, for example) I get the 3-second preroll.

Moreover, adjusting the Pre-roll settings (Default, and #2 & #3) on the Playback/Record page of General Settings seems to have no effect. Does anyone know where this 3-second punch-in preroll is set? The manual doesn't refer to punch-in mode hardly at all....

Thanks,

Tim Martyn

Hi Tim,

I have also searched Pyramix for a way to set record pre-roll but haven't found any. It seems like Pyramix lacks this feature. I believe the 3 second preroll you get if the play cursor is located after Mark In is a default preroll that you cannot change. I haven't found anywhere to alter it.

Using the Mark In-Out and Auto Puch recording makes setting a preroll for the recording as easy as placing the playback cursor the desired amount to the left of the Mark In. Activating "Cursor Auto return after playing" (CTRL+ALT+C) ensures that the preroll is constant if you have to do several takes.

From your post it seems like you really don't want a preroll and want to start the recording exactly at Mark In. Hitting the keyboard shortcut for "Cursor to Mark In" (NUM 4) will place the play cursor exactly at Mark In and you will start auto punch recording without pre-roll.

Best regards,

Thanks very much for the reply. Yes...sending the cursor to the Mark-In works perfectly, the problem occurs in the heat of battle in a session when you change the record point (by placing the cursor first - which you would normally do to find the desired point) and then send the Mark-In to the cursor. Then you get the pre-roll! (& the artist gets annoyed). It seems you must place the cursor, then send Mark-In to cursor, then move the cursor, then send cursor back to the Mark-In. Sure would be simpler to just change or eliminate the pre-roll time....

Hi,

Maybe this is too simple, but if you disable auto punch recording, the recording starts wherever you place the play cursor and you can forget the Mark In-Out :o)

Hi,

There is actually an option to punch in without preroll.
Hidden in the menu Internal Machine>Punch> you have the option to "Punch Selection" with no preroll (CTRL+NUM DESIMAL)or punch selection with preroll#1 (SHIFT+NUM DESIMAL), preroll#2 or preroll#3.

You have to have a selection spanning over all the tracks and the duration you want to punch in/out.
Beware that Pyramix automatically puts the affected tracks into Rec Ready and Auto Punch mode!
