Disc Write

I've had this problem before. Disc write will not give me any other burn speed other than 4X when I open the settings and use the drop down menu. I had hoped they fixed this in SP1. It defults to 4X, then sometimes lets me change it. Anyone else have this problem or know how to work around it other than using another CD writing program?

Hi Don,
Do you always have a CD ready in the CD writer when this occurs?
Having no disk can have an impact.
Thanks

Yes,
I've heard that can be a problem. Pulling the CD in and out a few times occasionally fixes this problem. Should I be putting a CD in the drawer before launching disc write?
I'm using a plextor premium if that matters.
Thank you for the response!

Hi Don,
It's not about "pulling the disk in and out" - The blank disc is queried and this is what DiscWrite bases it's burning speed settings on. Without a disk in the burner, the default Plex Premium speeds will be displayed. ..Dunno why you only see 4x.
Start up DiscWrite with a blank disc (as appropriate) and all will be well.
What firmware version do you have in the Plextor Premium drive?

I've also had some frustration with this matter. I typically burn at 16X using Taiyo CD-R media (rated for much higher rates). Several times in recent memory, Disc Write has limited me to 4X in the settings pull-down menu. Once, upon restarting the computer, the 16X option returned and my disc burned fine at the faster speed. Today, 4X was again the only option, and even after a reboot, 16X was unavailable, even with the disc inserted prior to launching DW.
Does Drive Letter Access (DLA) have some bearing on this? I seem to recall a post once implicating this.... I'm continuing to poke at the problem, but this is more voodoo than science at this point. I am using V5 SP1 on a Toshiba laptop with a Matshita DVD/CD combo drive.
I'll sure look forward to any definitive explanation and/or advice!
cheers,
MF

Hi All,
We will investigate the 4X Disc Write issue. We'll try to reproduce your problem first and then evaluate and see if the problem comes from our side or if it's a GEAR driver issue.
Thanks,
Ricardo
