Please help,

I'm getting a long 20 second (or so) fade in at the beginning of any mixdown or CD image generation. I can't see any automation written on the tracks, nor do I hear it when I play tracks in the session. Is there a hidden automation on the master? The fader doesn't move when played. Any suggestions? Is there a sub menu I missed?

Do you have bus tools inserted during nonrealtime mixdown?

Yes I do! Is that the problem? How does the bus tool add a fade?

It's a bug...

To workaround it, you need to make sure that "DRC" is enabled in the BusTools plug-in.

Try choosing the "Mastering Smoother Limiter" preset in the drop doen BusTools menu and adjust to taste...

In addition to what Graemme suggested, some colleagues have reported this bug, when the audio starts before TC 00:00:00:00. Possibly the case here, besides the Bus-Tools bug?

I found that just making sure the DRC button was enabled fixed the bug.

Thank you to all who responded! It's good to know help is close by. The DRC does sound good, but not sure what exactly it's doing to the sound. That's why I left it out of the chain. Is it some kind of variable "make up" expander?

Hi Don,

DRC = "Dynamic Release Control"

The BusTools limiter can behave somewhat like the Waves L2/L3 in "Auto-Release" mode. Unlike the L2/L3, the release control in BusTools sets the maximum release time that the DRC will use, as opposed to being entirely programme dependent.

I often use the "Mastering Smoother Limiter" preset, but with the release time set to 120-160 mSec and the threshold set to taste.

Unless you are deliberately trying to crush your audio, the DRC-enhanced BusTools sounds excellent. (*much* better than L2/L3)
