Run version 11 on 12 licence?

As Merging droped support for older Intel processors with version 12 of Pyramix, will it be possible to run version 11 and version 12 with the same dongle?

You can run both versions, but you'll have to install the appropriate keys with MT Security Settings app each time you wish to switch. Version 11 won't run with the v. 12 keys installed in your dongle, and vice versa.

Note that MT Security Settings gets installed along with Pyramix, and it is specific to the version installed - it will only see keys for version 12 if that's the version of Pyramix you have installed; version 11 keys if version 11.

Do you know why they dropped support for older processors?
It's the only application I know of that has done that! (except the 32/64 bit transition)

I have no idea, but the response I received from Merging Support was that the new version requires the AVX2 control functions found in fourth generation or later Intel or AMD processors - possibly required by the new Ambisonic handling capabilities (it couldn't be just that new "Temporarily Ungroup" command, could it?). It may be a requirement for the licensing of newly incorporated functions provided by third parties. These are just guesses on my part.

In any event, Pyramix 12 is running on my 2012 Mac Mini (Bootcamp with Win7 Pro, with an i7 3615QM (third generation) processor), with seemingly no ill effects, although I do not have any keys to unlock the higher orders of Ambisonics to test the full extent of its compatibility. I'll probably revert to 11.1.6 if I encounter any instability. Purchasing a new computer just for Pyramix is simply not feasible for me at the moment, so I may be hopping off the upgrade train for the foreseeable future.
