Group Aligned Clips

I often import audio from other workstations...projects with many, many tracks and many, many takes. Is there a way to automatically group align clips like Pyramix does when importing OMFs or AES31 files? I've been selecting each column and hitting control G to group them. But with over 100 takes and over 26 tracks, it's a very daunting task.

Thanks!
Brad

There's no built-in function that I can think of that will do what you need, but that doesn't mean you can't create one...

Make a Macro consisting of three commands: 1. Selection Menu > Select Clip(s) under Cursor, 2. Clips Menu > Group Clips, then 3. Cursor and Marks > Nudge Cursor > Nudge Cursor to Next Clip. Once you've created the Macro, give it a Keyboard Shortcut.

Then, the next time you import a project like this, situate your cursor to the beginning of the first vertically arrayed group of Clips, and call your Macro, then call it again, and again, and again...

Yes, it's still tedious, but at least it's a faster tedium.

Nice one Frank!

You can also- before importing compositions- set the automatically align Group Clips from the Import... Interchange dialog.

Ah, yes, I guess you can see how often I import projects from other DAWs...

Fantastic. Thank you.

I've seen the automatically align Group Clips, but it appears to only be a function when importing an AES31 and like files. Not when just bringing in a bunch of wave files. The macro idea will help greatly for this. I wish you could select the whole EDL and be able to group align them without grouping every take together. Glad this is a rare instance!

Thanks again.
