Hello there,
I've been using Pyramix for years and always found useful the ability to select regions easily by left-clicking on a grouped clip anywhere and then moving the mouse while holding SHIFT across multiple tracks. This behaviour is now gone it seems.
There is a new button called 'temporarily disable clip grouping' which is quite useful, but even with that button on, I can't select the region I want within a grouped clip. I've tried every combination using modifiers, with that button on or off, and I can't replicate that functionality.
Am I missing something here?
Is that a bug?
Many thanks,
Raphael

Re: Region selection within a grouped-clip
I recently replied to another Topic thread in this forum about some of the issues you encounter when trying to select regions and clips within Groups, found here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14386#p40788. Perhaps there is some useful tip or two in there for you. Long story short, take a look at the Selection menu's Nudge > Grow/Narrow Selection up/down commands.
I've never been a fan of the selection method you describe, because of the inaccuracy of the mouse having me wind up with only portions of Clips selected, when I want them in full, crossfades included. I prefer to use the commands described in that other post, as I feel they give me more precise control.
Also, I'm still on Pyramix 11, although I had a brief look when 12 installed on my Windows 7 machine despite my not having the supported CPU. For what it's worth, I didn't notice any difference in the Selection behaviour.

Re: Region selection within a grouped-clip
Hi Franck,
Thank you for your reply.
I actually did read your post and didn't find the answer to this disappearing functionality.
I agree it had to be used with caution but I really regret I don't have the option anymore.
Pyramix used to behave differently when you clicked first and then pressed SHIFT or do the opposite by pressing SHIFT first and then click-dragging.
That was SO useful. It was possible to easily select a region within a clip, make it the size you want across many crossfades and tracks and then you could change the clip gains for those selected clips, or trim the automation or punch the envelope using CTRL+SHIF+P.
Why has this functionality of choosing any region anywhere been removed?
Just the idea of using the Grow/Narrow commands on a 48 tracks EDL gives me the creeps.
Please bring it back Merging. Please!

Re: Region selection within a grouped-clip
If only we had the normal Windows standards for discontinuous clip selection, in or out of any groups.
Click to select, Shift-Click to select adjacent range, CTRL-Click to add to any selection discontinuously, and CTRL-wipe to add adjacent to selection. Excel cell selection or File selection in Explorer all work this way, it has been a wonderful Windows standard for over 20 years.
Please Merging, it wouldn't be hard. And while you're at it, add this selection behavior to the CD Markers, Album publishing, Media Manager as well. Also add CTRL-A to select all in any of those lists as well.
