Click at the end of master files!

Postby stephanc » Fri Mar 08, 2019 17:59

This is ultimately annnoying: I get an audible click at the very end of a DDP master once downconverting from higher sampling rates. The source project came in 48kHz, so I made the mastering in 48kHz and chose to SRC while creating the PMI master file. "Workaround" is to manually SRC the master file as a render either externally or in the Media Management, then switch the project to 44k1, and create the master. Strangely enough none of the Digital release files, neither in 44k1 nor in the original SR of 48kHz, have the click at the end.

To be precise: This is only at the end of the last track, I do not speak of clicks inbetween tracks, or of a buffer problem of a software player. When doing a loadback, I can clearly see this click at the boundary of the last track, before the CD end marker. I have posted a pic at the FB user group.

I have created several projects like this one and there must now 10.000s of CDs on the market with this click. Excellent. Seems I have stopped the DDP player to listen to a bit too early after the last track.

This is on both of my rigs, Masscore and Native, with the latest v11.

Someone know about that?

Best, St.

If I recall correctly, that's an old bug that seems to have resurfaced. I'd contact support@merging.com directly to see if there is a remedy.

Thanks, Frank! I wouldn't call it an "old" error, but indeed, I made the DDP master on my laptop native version where I have not yet installed 11.1.5. Having re-done the master on my larger system that I have migrated to 11.1.5 now, the new version is click-free! I was not aware of this problem before. I am usually coming down from higher SR, mostly DXD, and then create all downconverted versions from there. So, a flawless SRC is mandatory. Strange that the problem never occured to the Digital Release files...

The reason I suggested that it's an "old" problem is that I have some dim recollection of seeing just that issue mentioned in the Pyramix Release Notes for some past version. Now you say that the same process using Pyramix 11.1.5 is click free, so it's possible that my dim recollection is of reading about the fix in the most recent Release Notes - I'll have to check. Do you still have the original PMI file that was the source for the "clicky" DDP creation? Does it have the click? (changing the file extension from ".pmi" to ".wav" and then mounting it to Pyramix, will allow you to examine it.)

I never purchased the Pyramix DDP option when it was a paid add-on, instead choosing to use Sonaris' "DDP Creator" software, and it's always produced bit-perfect conversions from Pyramix PMI files - so my experience with the Pyramix/DiskWrite DDP creation process (now that it's included for free in my Native version) is limited.
