DSD256 and 64

Postby Gonzalo Noqué » Thu Aug 08, 2013 11:54

I just had the opportunity to move to Pyramix and had my first steps with DSD, and have some doubts I guess people experienced with DSD can answer. If I record at DSD256, the clip shows graphically a heavy noise and there is a -6.21dB peak (right clik on the clip, and "Properties"); is this the DSD256 noise? If I use a VUmeter, and select the HF band I can´t see anything going on, but probably it is because it´s higher than that, am I right?
If I render the clip (with the "DSD render" option) to a new DSD256 clip, strangely there is no noise graphically, but it says that the peak is still the same.
If I record at DSD64, the peak is more or less the same (around -6dB), but then I can see graphically in the VU meter that it´s the ultrasonic noise. But if I DSD64 render the clip, the new one has a very small peak (-143), is all of this normal?

Thanks!!

Thanks Mario,

finally I solved it simply by choosing "generate waveform AFTER recording", not while recording. It looks like Pyramix wasn´t filtering HF noise properly while generating the waveform, I don´t know why!

Thanks!

Hi Gonzalo,

Strange as this is an issue that was fixed in the official Pyramix v8.1.7 release. Are you using that version or a previous build?.
Do you have the same problem with the MTFF file format?

Thanks,
Ricardo

Thanks Ricardo,

actually I´m using version 8.1.5, since the last one was released in the middle of a recording, and I´m waiting until it´s done for the update. I´m glad to hear that it is something that has been solved in version 8.1.7, and not something strange with my setting!

Thanks,

Gonzalo
