Q: How to render 4000 individual files...

Postby J.Wajer » Tue Feb 05, 2013 12:27

Between my marks I have over 4000 files that need to be rendered individually. Is there a trick I dont know of that could accomplish such demonic task? I dont want to grab my PT...if possible :/

Nope. That does not work. It remains one file. Propably because it is one file. I have applied Automatic Silence Removal in order to fake them individual files. Now I need to render them as individual files....

Hi thought they were individual files, placed between the marks, not one file marked at diferent points, sorry.

If you have removed the spaces between them by applying Auto Sil Rem, then select all pieces on the track, then click Render (choosing None on the processing options) and checking Selection-Split by Groups should render all the 4000 bits into new 4000 rendered files. At least in theory. Have you tried? I have done that in the past. That´s what Split by Groups is supposed to achieve I guess. Maybe I didn´t do it with pieces cutted from the same clip, I can´t remember.

In PT, I guess the way to do it is to select the regions and export as files from the region list. But you still need to cut the silences in between the marks I think. The problem is the name I guess, they will end with subnumbers of the original file name. Maybe there is a better way, I´m not a big PT user, I just know the essentials that I need to freelance :)

Edit: When you select all the clips, be sure that the silence spaces between the clips is not selected! That is the trick. Only the pieces to be rendered should be selected.
Best regards,

Forgive me if this is a silly question, did you select the files by rubber banding with SHIFT pressed. That selects the clips on the timeline but not the areas in between.

I've just tried what I think you were trying to do (though not with 4000 clips) and using Selection-Split by Groups, that created a separate file for every clip.

Hope that helps.

Just looking into exactly the same thing!
I find that split by group takes a confirmation *process* hit for EVERY file. I'd like this to be *OK all*
Let me know if you find a way...

Yes I did this. It might be not working because most of the files belong to one clip, but are cut-up by automatic silence removal.

Found it out. It does work. but not in the way I have tried this. You need linked clips for this, and since my stereo file was treated with automatic silence removal, all clip where still linked into one chunk. But, once unlinked they became Mono files, and I had to apply a macro to regroup them one-by-one :)
