Report Designer

Has anyone waded through the Report Designer documentation enough where they have been able to design new layouts of documentation of CD masters?

That's not a very friendly manual....

True enough, but if you persist and work with the program, and with the forms provided by Merging, you'll find that in many cases, all you need to do is replace Merging's logo with your own, add some other text and tweaks, and you're done.

Graemme was kind enough to send me some examples of the forms he customized for his business - I'd be happy to send along a couple that I made for mine, if you'd like. Basically, I get by with two - one for the CD replication company, the other for the graphics designer of any cover associated with a project.

Once you grok the thing and accept the 'pedantic-plus' interface, it's pretty straightforward... <insert sound of sarcastic laughter here>

I based my template on an ancient Sadie PQ report...it offers both CD-frames as well as the appropriately rounded numbers for a graphic artist. I don't know if anybody other than the graphic artist and proof-reader look at these reports anymore but I still send them...

I can send them if you like...but it sounds like FL has adapted and likely improved on them.

It took a while to locate the proper command/term for the CD's total time minus the 2 second lead-in, which provides the proper total for the Graphics/CD Booklet Designer, but once that was done...

Anyway, should they prove to be helpful, my two forms can be found here:

Apologies to reanimate this thread, but probably it makes most sense to post my question here: I have successfully modified an existing PQ sheet template into a personal one, but these modifications only seem to apply to the first page. As soon as there are too many tracks and the PQ sheet has 2 or more pages, there are columns again on page 2 and the following that have been deleted for the first one... The main section ("Layout Preview") only shows page 1. How can I edit the subsequent pages?

Once you grok the thing and accept the 'pedantic-plus' interface, it's pretty straightforward... <insert sound of sarcastic laughter here>

Well, I'm not quite there yet...

Thanks for any advice,
Daniel

In the editor, go to the View > Windows menu and make sure that there is a check in the box next to "Layers". You may as well check all the boxes in that menu.

Once that's done, you should have a section of the main window, in the upper left. At the, um, bottom of this, er, upper left area, there are three tabs: Objects, Layers and Preview. Click on Layers.

Once you can see the Layers display, there should be at least three entries in there: "Base", "Front Page" and "Following Pages".

"Ah HA!", you say...

Yes, it seems that the programmers figured you'd want to have a common header for all pages (Base), special information describing this particular project that only needs to be on the first page (Front Page), and then a continuation of the data information on all following pages (Following Pages). What you need to do is to copy the data/spread-sheet stuff from the Front Page's layout, and paste and lengthen it for the following pages. In the upper left hand corner, leave the check box beside Base checked, but alternate between Front Page and Following Pages, until you have things arranged how you'd like.

The stock templates that come from Pyramix already have multiple pages set up with all the PQ information fields. You just need to check the appropriate check box in the appropriate window section, which has the appropriate tab enabled...

Hi!
I'm just learning to use the Report designer of Pyramix which seems to be a great tool I had not known before.
Here's my question: Has anybody figured out yet how to insert the total number of pages into a Report?

Using the term "p."+Atrim$(str$(Page(),20)) I can only insert the number of the current page. But I can't find variable that returns the total number of pages of the whole document.

How can I get a result that looks like:

p. 1 of 3
p. 2 of 3
p. 3 of 3

???

It's just a little detail though, but it would be really nice to have it.

Thanks for your help!
