Hepta SRC performance

Postby Daniel Kemper » Fri Jun 22, 2012 15:11

Hi everyone,

We enjoy the renewed "Hepta" SRC engine in Pyramix 7, but on the other hand we are quite unhappy with its performance. On an up-to-date Core i5 workstation the generation of a CD Image from a plain 24 bits/96 kHz stereo project, using one of the 3 available "SRC Filter Types", takes almost real time, approx. 1 hour for a 70 minutes disc image. All three CPU cores (the forth one is hidden due to MassCore) are constantly running at 100% load. With mixdowns the performance is identical, so this doesn't seem to be a problem with the "Generate CD Image" module only.

We are using the current 7.1.10 version - not quite sure if the performance has maybe become worse with one of the past Pyramix versions.

Anyone having similar problems?

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Sounds like you have something not working quite correctly with your system. My 24/96 stereo projects with dither added via Ozone 4 mix down at about 3-4 times realtime on my old P4D system (about 5 times when going to a 32-bit floating file without Ozone). Even a large 24-track 24/96 project with automation is faster (though not by much!) than realtime. Still using XP but with the latest PMX build.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your reply. I found out that obviously the virus protection was causing the huge performance problems. I had deactivated it already before, but obviously something was still disturbing Pyramix in the background. After a complete uninstall the speed is about six times fast than before.

Best wishes
Daniel

Too happy too soon. It was not the anti-virus software, but obviously this is really a Pyramix issue. From time to time there are still poor mixdown performances - sometimes a restart of Pyramix (just the application, not a Windows reboot) helps, sometimes it doesn't. Haven't found out what the problem is yet.
