MD5 checksum (somewhat urgent)

Postby redroomstudio » Tue Oct 05, 2010 12:01

Hi

How do you create an MD5 checksum for your DDP master? I have for the fist time been asked to provide MD5 but do not know how to create one.

Anyone?

Hi Morten,

the few DDP files I generated, I did use Sonoris DDP Creator. The aplication reads pmi files from Pyramix and is very easy to use. And it generates the Checksum MD5 files that you want, automatically.

You can download a fully functional trial and do it : http://www.sonoris.nl/catalog/ddp-creat ... 2ac2f66fd1

There are some simple utilities for windows for this - such as:

http://www.md5summer.org/

http://www.colonywest.us/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=56

If you happen to have a mac - md5 is "built-in" to the os. If you navigate to the folder containing the ddp with a terminal you can simply type md5 <filename> (or md5 <full filepath>) and the md5 checksum for that file will be calculated and displayed.

Regards,

Mark

PS: Thinking further about this - it's been years since I have made a ddp in pyramix, but doesn't diskwrite automatically create an md5 checksum file when making the ddp files?

Mark,

I can't get access to my machine right now, but I seem to recall that it does.

DiscWrite generates a CRC32 checksum, not MD5.

Thank you all for your input.

I ended up using a standalone MD5 app (OSX), I never been asked for a MD5 checksum before, usually a zipped DDP with a textfile of the TOC does the trick (have delivered a lot of masters this way).

Might look into the Sonoris DDP creator for future situations involving MD5, especially if it reads .pmi

Best,
Morten

Really, by now, DiscWrite should be generating MD5 checksums...

Really agree re MD5 as standard hashing for DDPis. Merging....please add this to 7.0.1, pretty please?

Best
