Today I got the message from merging that they are not willing to sell me a DS-Key for my Pyramix V. 4.3.5 system any more. This happend after they had provided me a temporary DS-Key just two weeks ago for testing.
Instead they offered me to upgrade to V.6. Then I would get the key for free.
I am not amused, since for me it doesn´t make sense to upgrade to a system that has probably massive problems with handling bigger projects (see very last posts) and still can not use VST plug-ins like Altiverb etc.
Another point for not upgrading is that I have to keep compatibility with my old projects which I think I will loose by saving them in V.6.
I´m often working on long projects (2-3 hours) with many tracks and sticked to my system since I know the limits, the bugs and know which workarounds work for me. I don´t expect an error free software, but I expect as a customer to be treated with more respect.
When my customers see how complicated it is to open a DS-Video (without having the key) and if I tell them that there is no way of getting a key for it, they get their own idea about mergings products and policy.
I feel a big lack in information policy of merging. My dealer can´t tell me what´s going on in merging´s developement, what´s the state of bugfixing etc. Very little info at all. And if he can´t tell me, who else could tell me?
If there would be a real good information exchange about reliability, about bugs and workarounds then I probably would think of upgrading. But in the situation as it is now I am afraid of possibly running into severe problems that I have to solve on my own .... And my main suject is music, not exploring workarounds for unexpected software behaviours or hardware compatibility problems .....
The good reputation on customer relationship merging once had seems to be gone for a while.
Of course I understand, that every company has to limit the support to a reasonable number of software versions. But in my case its just a key I wanted. Not a big job for the support . And a payed one too....
For me it would be a great thing to get access to the beta forum since I expect there is more information exchange as in this forum here. Probably I would then change my mind. But I need to know what´s really going on. Not just promising sellers information. Or the kind of information I just received from merging.

Re: merging kicking off V.4.x users
Hello Bodo,
I cannot speak to the issue of large projects but as far as VST and Altiverb I have had a lot of experience over the past year.
The first issue came up with VB plugins conflicting with Altiverb. When I went to Mass Core I still had to deal with this issue. However, I have recently had the opportunity to try the PMX 6 SP1 beta and now can tell you that Altiverb 6 does work with SP1 beta and also works along side of the VB plugins. The little drain on the CPU is impressive compared to a non Mass Core version. I have not yet tried the surround and higher sampling rate of version of Altiverb XL but I will soon.
I hope you get the system you want.

Re: merging kicking off V.4.x users
Hi,
Yes, Merging believes it is in every one's interest to upgrade to the current version of Pyramix. However issuing a Key for the (very old) V4.3 system is still possible provided you, as a user, understand and accept that we cannot offer any longer support for a version that was released so many years ago.
We're trying very hard to fix all reported issues, and critical ones first. As for the specific Altiverb/MassCore compatibility we confirm that it is now fixed with Pyramix V6.0SP1, due out soon.
There must be some misunderstanding in the way our offer was forwarded to you, since we were under the impression that offering a free of charge software option simultaneously to your upgrading to the current version of Pyramix was a respectful offer, but if you prefer to buy now this option and only later upgrade your system, that's fine for us.
Please have your dealer contact Merging for staying up to date, if this is not feasible you are most welcome to join our beta program, where you will also have the latest Release Notes updates.
(p.s. simply send me a private message with a description of your business and type of work)
Regards,
Merging Technologies
