Best ReNovator Performance ever

Hi, just wanted to say thank you to Merging. I'm using native version 7.1.4 on an HP ProBook 4530s with windows 7 pro 64-bit, and experiencing the best and most stable performance i've ever had when using renovator.

48 tracks of 88.2 off a USB3 drive, and using a USB Benchmark DAC1. No crashes, I can render much larger regions of audio than i've ever been able to in the past with my Mykerinos system. Thank youthank you thank you! very happy

Do you think it is the 64 bit of your OS that made the difference? I just got Renovator for me, but to be honest, I'm a little bit disappointed regarding the stability. There are too many crashes. And there are some other issues which I haven't known before e.g. whole audio chunks occasionally being shifted to random places. These things happen quite often so I really need to watch out for what I'm doing.
I'm using pmx v7.17 but I'm still running win XP with 32 bit. I might change this soon. But apart from that, do you know any other things how to improve the stability of Renovator on pyramix?

Hi Daniel! I've never experienced what you describe, and have been using Pyramix 7 with windows XP for quite a while. Most of the instability with ReNovator i've experienced is from doing larger numbers of tracks at once (40+), in bigger Pyramix sessions.

I'm not knowledgeable enough with computers to know for certain if changing your OS will solve the problems you're experiencing. But I do know that Pyramix native and ReNovator on my i5 laptop with windows 7 64-bit has been the most stable and bug free when operating ReNovator, this is coming from a an older quad core MassCore system running on Windows XP.

Sorry i can't be much more help, but the problems you're experiencing do sound unusual from what i've experienced.

Hi,

One explanation could be that some issues observed in the past with ReNovator were memory releated. In large selections you could have a memory shortage/crash.

Under a 32bit OS: The systems processes have to share 2GB of Memory (Pyramix, and other windows processes)
Under a 64bit OS: Pyramix (and ReNovator) is allowed to use 4GB of Memory for itself.
Because Pyramix is still 32bit (under 64bit/WoW64) we are limited to 4GB but expect to have even more Memory available once Pyramix is a full 64 bit application.

Hi Daniel,

I haven't had any memory-related crashes with Renovator for a number of years now (running V6 with Masscore on XP and 3GB of memory installed), except for a known bug that if you cancel Renovator while it's playing instead of stopping playback first, it will bring the whole system down quite spectacularly! That said, I'd certainly move away from XP to Windows 7 as there are some strange memory things going on with XP - I have an annoying random crash with Altiverb and non-realtime bounces which seems to be only present on XP for example.

Hope you get Renovator working...its integration with Pyramix is fabulous!
