Hi,

I'd like to buy a pyramix native but I have some basic questions.
I work with macpro 2,66GHz and Mbox2.

More and more french post-production studios are working with Pyramix. So I need to get used to it.
That's why I want to train myself to perform basic sound designs/mixes with video. I think it's better to have my own DAW at home than to do an expensive formation.
I don't need to import/export OMF or anything like that, but just to run a video and perform sound design on it.

So, what are the Pyramix Native restrictions compared to the main Pyramix Virtual Studio capabilities?
Is there a Pyramix Native Documentation? (I did not find it)
How many tracks are available and how many can I play simultaneously?

Do I need to buy an option? (I don't think so but...)
I know that we can specify Pyramix Native in the same way as the main Pyramix system with the same application specific software pack for Post, but I don't need all these options.

Can you help me?

Hi,

the pyramix native documentation is the same as the other versions, so the user guide is what you need. One of the main restrictions is as far as I know that you cannot have direct monitoring, but I guess you don't need that so much in post.

The music pack is a good entry point, pricewise, and you can perform all the editing and mixing functions, but as soon as you will need to work with interchange formats and other video formats than avi then you 'll be looking at some pricey upgrades. Still depending on your needs it might work out cheaper than the whole post pack

I use (for audio only) the Native Broadcast Pack, where the simultaneous I/O usage is limited to 24. This means total number of used physical inputs and outputs of your sound device at a time can not be more than 24, e.g. 16 ins + 8 outs. Music Pack handles 96 simultaneous I/O, while the number of edit tracks are unlimited in any software pack.

Well I read that in the user guide:
"This manual is principally concerned with Pyramix software installed on workstations with Mykerinos cards.
Although many of the features and functions described also apply to Pyramix Native there are differences. These
are detailed in the Pyramix Native documentation"
that's why I thought there was one, but I didn't find it. Maybe I misunderstood.

Furthermore I found that:

We can notice a distinction between Pyramix LE (free), Pyramix Native (690 euros), Native Media Bundle (460 euros), Broadcast, Music, Mastering and Post Pack (respectively 660, 1290, 2800, 3990 euros).
So what are the specifications of Pyramix Native alone (not a pack or bundle)?

I understand that we can buy individual options after buying a Pyramix Native depending on our needs.
But first I'd like to find/understand the restrictions of a basic Pyramix Native whithout any options (not a LE or a pack one).
Is it possible to read a video and perform editing on it with just Pyramix Native?

I suppose I'm missing something but I don't know what...

Hi,

at least as far as I understood (until more authentic answers will arrive):

Pyramix LE is only "free" in case you buy a Mykerinos card.

"Native" stands for the single fact that you run the software without the Mykerinos DSP card, and in such a case I don't think LE would be free.

I am not good at video stuff at all, but I'm afraid, at least Virtual Transport Server and DS Video Player options (which are part of the music pack) are needed to work with video, please correct me if I am wrong. Also surround option may be essential for you, which is also included in the Music Pack.

If you buy the same individual options which are contained in a software pack one-by-one, the whole thing can be 2-3 times more expensive than the bundle.

So seems that Music Pack can be the good choice for you.

I can just agree with the previous poster that Music Pack is a good choice. It's perfect for most music (except mastering) and post-production work. For post you usually ad some interchange options like OMF and/or AAF. But for the OP the Music Pack would cover all bases.

Just to clarify a bit about the available software choices - Pyramix Native only and Media Bundle is now replaced by the Broadcast, Music, Mastering and Post-Production Packs. The names are a bit confusing as the Music Pack is the first choice for most audio work.
