On my MBP17 onboard sound (Realtek) with Native DirectSound is no more available in VS3 control panel. Upgrading Realtek drivers didn't help. Downgrading to PMX 6.2.3_build_6936 restored the DirectSound possibility next to the ASIO driver. Since I'm using my MBP very often standalone with built in headphone outputs (for mobile editing etc.), it makes build 7777 unusable for me!
Anyone out there with same experience?
Here I have to say, even with build 6936 onboard sound is not available when operating Pyramix with ASIO drivers for RME Hammerfall. Therefore I never managed to use the onboard sound for monitoring purposes when recording thru RME MADIface. And there was always an error message when booting and previous VS3 configuration was ASIO. That's not a problem with the same setup running Logic on Mac OSX snow leo: input and output devices can be different. I'm not sure who is responsable for these Windows restrictions: Merging, RME, Realtek or Microsoft!
Any suggestions?
Cheers, Gabriel

Re: PMX 6.2.4_SP1_build_7777 onboard sound issues
I've never used DirectSound at all with my Native system, so I can't comment on those questions, but I have used ASIO4ALL to allow Pyramix to access my MacBook Pro's onboard Realtek audio hardware - works like a charm, and I believe gives you better options for sound reproduction (sample rates, word length, etc.) than what DirectSound offers.
I don't think that you can configure Pyramix to use one device for input and another for output, unless there is some way to configure all your hardware options into a single, aggregate device - which is, I seem to remember, how it's accomplished on the Mac OS side, but I don't really know whether there is a similar option available for Windows.
In the meantime, ASIO4ALL is pretty easy to set up, and all you do is change which device you wish to work with in the VS3 Control panel to allow Pyramix to use either your RME hardware, or your onboard Realtek hardware - depending on what you wish to do at any particular time.

Re: PMX 6.2.4_SP1_build_7777 onboard sound issues
Many thanks for your useful suggestion, Frank. Yes, it seems ASIO4all could do that difficult glue job between different manufacturers, HW and SW. I've tried ASIO4all v2.9 and v2.10 beta. Playback from Pyramix thru Realtek onboard audio works quite well. It also works with Realtek inputs to RME MADIface outputs (multidevice ASIO is possible also under Windows!), but just for max 8 outs. But it was never possible to use MADIface inputs: no way together with MADIface outs nor with Realtek outs. All RME ins and outs appear in the configuration tree, but if you want to configure it in Pyramix the display of the MADIface in/outs row is very messy. So no replacement of Hammerfall ASIO yet.

hi Gabriel,
can you explain this statement? i've always understood mixing multiple ASIO devices was impossible. it would solve that one limitation of the RME Madiface of having only one type of I/O available (what a 1/8" headphone jack would have done!). how do you configure it, through Hammerfall ASIO?
cheers,

Re: PMX 6.2.4_SP1_build_7777 onboard sound issues
Hi Charlie
Sorry for being confusing: I just managed to use two different devices for input and output under ASIO. With ASIO4ALL it was possible to use the onboard audio for input source and the RME for output destinaton, but not vice versa. And of course ASIO4ALL doesn't support all possibilities of RME MADI. Yet, RME Hammerfall supports RME devices only as far as I know. So, not really successful. If Logic would support MS channels I think I would execute recording sessions under Mac OS X with its support of onboard audio for simple software monitoring (but I have to state Logic is not always as logic and clear as Pyramix is to me).
best regards
Gabriel
