Click and pops at 88.2 with Fireface 400

Postby Davey » Fri Dec 19, 2008 23:06

Hi,
I'm using a brand new Asus m70v laptop with a fireface 400 in v 6.0 sp1 native. I use external drives usually connected with USB or sometimes ESATA. In both cases I've been able to playback between 32 and 48 tracks 24 bit at 44.1 without a problem. Just recently I tried to play a stereo 88.2 file and I get clicks and pops. I transferred the file to the internal hard drive and the same problem occurs. Then I tried to play it using the laptop's internal soundcard and it plays without a problem. I've upgraded the Fireface's driver and firmware and this didn't help either. My old laptop played 88.2 perfectly with all the same equipment and an identical setup. I know that this new Asus laptop does NOT have a TI firewire chipset and maybe that's the problem? Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm replying to myself - I raised the buffer size to 1024 samples in the fireface settings and now 88.2 plays back well. I didn't consider this at first because I was playing back 48 tracks successfully (at 44.1) so I thought surely 2 tracks of 88.2 should also work. But I guess not....
