I've been reading about problems with the RME FF400 and Macbook Pro running XP and it seems there is a lot of confusion about what is causing the problem. It seems for some people it works and for others it doesn't. Does anyone have any recent info about this? I am a Pyramix native user (v5.1) and use a FF400. I need a new laptop but am a little scared of the Mac.
While on the subject of laptops, has anyone has a good experience with any of the Sony Vaios? I'm interested in performance and also in not having a super loud fan noise.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
David

I'm responding to my own posting. I just found some excellent info on the RME forum for anyone who is interested in this issue.

thanks
Hi Larry,
That's great to know. Do you need to disable WiFi or Bluetooth in order for the FF to work properly?

Re: Macbook Pro with RME FF400
Do follow the suggestions in the link above - but above all you must turn off any wireless net connection on the MBP. Some have had problems with bluetooth as well but I use a BT mouse and have never had it cause grief.
I used the FF400 with a LaCie/Seagate FW-800 hard drive for some time without problems but have since switched to a USB 2.0 HD only because that is what is featured on the enclosure I am currently filling up with Native. I am usually only doing 2 or 4 channels with Native though. I am thinking about getting an eSATA cardbus, just to free up a USB slot and have the flexibility but I understand that the cardbus connection is not terribly secure.

That is the greatest understatement of the year. Last evening I was recording and someone kept coming into the “control room” quite oblivious that he was walking on the cable from Cardbus to portable drive.
