Loading Mixer snapshot during record

Hi, can anyone tell me if it's possible to recall a mixer snapshot while recording please? Sometimes I need to recall a mix mid concert or even mid piece if i've forgotten to change it before hand. My assumption is that it isn't possible given that it seems like it's having to load a whole new mixer rather than just changing values which seems pretty intensive.

Thanks

I've never had the nerve to change anything while recording a concert. I don't even like looking at the computer...

However, technically speaking the Mixer preset would only change the monitor mix and that happens after the recording is committed to disk. My fear would be for some kind of computer hickup spoiling the "one-shot or lose it" situation of a concert.

In my workflow, I am saving the mixer memory for each piece and recalling these mixers following applause while the transport is stopped. But every once in a while, I find there are two pieces on a live concert program with very different instrumentations or buss levels, played without pause. In those cases, I will also save a mixer preset. Recalling it seems to work fine, actually. I have been able to record Star-Spangled Banner going straight into a quiet strings-only piece, and have both mixes come off as intended. In the past, the monitor mix for the anthem would go into limiting and need to be remixed later.

The only caveat is saving to and recalling from global vs user, as these seem to be mixed up in Pyramix. Also, be sure to thoroughly test the recall before recording a live performance. As always, have a backup recorder running. As Frank intimated, surprises in these situations are no fun!

In a word, no. The mixer (in v14), if the system is recording, won't respond to a snapshot dropped on it; record must be stopped. The snapshot rebuilds the mixer.

This is a degradation of functionality - back in v5 you could drop snapshots on the mixer without a rebuild. Apart from the while-recording issue, some big mixers, especially plug-in heavy ones, can take an irritating time to re-build, and this shouldn't be necessary just to change some values. It's a shame, because back in v5 drag'n'drop snapshots were a great way to try out different settings / mixes and quickly compare back-to-back. When you have to wait for the re-build it breaks the workflow.

Perhaps drag and drop shortcuts no longer work, but you can use mixer presets. There is no need to drop out of record. Store by right-clicking on the mixer then selecting Memory> Presets> Store> New. To recall, Memory> Presets> Recall State. I put it into use twice this past weekend for the Star-Spangled Banner situation I posted about above.
